i have to agree, he was banging them in for Blackburn. Yes they won the league in his 4 seasons there but they were only a top 6 team. His goalscoring record for them was remarkable.

he played for Soton but only in the old Div 1 (4 seasons? cant remember). His goalscoring record there was more like a young player getting up to speed, something like 25 league goals overall.

It’s a distant memory but I remember the fanfare when he signed for Blackburn and I’m sure he scored two worldies on his debut. Also he suffered a serious injury, from memory, early into his Blackburn career, prior to advancements in treatment, and still managed those figures.

Scored a hat-trick v Arsenal on his full debut for Southampton, when he was 17.

Shearer was an exceptional striker at every club.

Yep, shows how good he is. But that ball from Josko to him yesterday was an anomaly based on between 2022-now - hopefully not anymore!

He had 5 seasons in the First Division with Southampton, scoring 23 goals (so his top flight scoring record is actually 283, not the 260 that he’s mostly attributed which is just PL goals).

He moved to Blackburn in the Summer of 1992 when the PL first started.

He scored there for Salzburg didn't he? The way both teams are playing this season means he has an excellent chance of scoring there for us this campaign.

Then I'm guessing it is just Sunderland left for him as he wouldn't have played there before?

Especially when you remember that Blackburn and Newcastle used to feed Shearer the ball at every possible opportunity.

Funny how many people claimed any striker would score shit loads in our team, yet Arsenal sign a highly regarded striker and he is on 3 goals and the dippers sign someone who most were claiming was a better all round player than Haaland and he has just one. Not like he still has De Bruyne putting them on a plate either.

I still don't feel like many of our greats get the respect they deserve(d). Haaland won't give a shit of course, but his record is outstanding. There's no other player out there who scores the goal he did against Brentford which is one of my favourites of all of his so far.
