Made a huge difference upping the pressure at a key stage of the game.
Pep's become super conservative in big games since last January, often using false 9s even with both strikers available. I think it's a matter of safety first and then if we're still not winning then go a bit more direct once they're tired, as we saw yesterday. Was crying out for him for 70mins, their defence is shite. It was there to be pressured and then we started doing it and ripped them apart. Either Pep wanted to see the game out and then put the pressure on in a quick burst at the end or it just happened.
In regards to the false 9, He will use them against sides who press a lot. He wants them to drop back into midfield so we can play out from the back. Having the extra man in midfield can help beat the press and retain the ball.Pep's become super conservative in big games since last January, often using false 9s even with both strikers available. I do think sometimes Pep can be TOO conservative with false 9s and TOO respectful to the opponents. But given how many times he's been burned by counter attacking teams I can't blame him for the extra caution, especially when we're winning these games currently.
