It’s a player performance forum
His performance today was poor again.
I saw a lay off pas to Kev on 62 mins which looking back was just a pass, nothing really.
Other than that he had no impact as a striker on a game with 4 goals scored .
I don’t think his performance was poor. Yeah, he’s a striker and will be judged by his goals but I don’t think he is playing badly.

Would have been ice for him to get a goal today but let’s see where he is after a month or so after having covid. His general play was quite good though

This forum can be an odd place. He didn’t score, fair enough but performance wise, he was far and away the best of the front three. His overall performance was levels ahead of Sterling but Sterling smashes in a free kick late on and his thread is full of people proclaiming he is back and should never have been doubted.

I wish people could/would look deeper than G/A stats and yet funnily enough most of the same people moan when Fernandes wins another POTM award for “stat padding” with pens.
Agree, I think Gaby did okay. Personally I felt Sterling did better overall though. Gave the RB quite a bit of trouble, which led to a few fouls, was direct when he moved the right, and his long pass to KDB for the first goal was sublime.

Gaby was his usual industrious, hard-working self. I think he looked a tad sharper than he was the past games. Not the best game he had in a City shirt certainly, but he wasn't terrible.

The problem with Gabby is that he’s very unselfish and is a grafter. He’s not a goal poacher like Kun. Souness hit the nail on the head tonight by calling him a ‘busy fool’. In that he does an awful lot of graft outside the box. Which means he’s not in and around the six yard box to get the goals. Pep must be asking him to do that. I like him a lot but maybe do wish sometimes he would stick in the box to get the poachers goals. He’s a top player.

Yeah, not great, but lively. Had a few good moments when the ball was zipped into him and he did a few lay offs.

But definitely not awful or someone to worry about, like some would want you to believe.

It has to be deliberate. He's gone from being offside quite frequently to never being offside. We've seen him on the wings more too.

Jesus used to get in the box a lot more. I think people are forgetting when he was called a tap in merchant ie a player that did nothing but be in the box all the time.

I agree that sometimes in trying to help the team, he actually doesn’t do himself any favours. He is never going to be the next Kun Aguero and he is never going to score the amount of goals Sergio has. However, I firmly believe that most (not all) of our best performances currently occur when Gabby is in the starting line up.

It doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love us to sign someone like Haaland.
