A ‘new’ City?

Some people genuinely don't like our football. It's revolutionary (certainly by British standards) and highly technical. Don't underestimate the inherent conservatism of the football establishment in this country, which in its heart still prefers muddy pitches, leather 'casey' footballs, clogging centre-halves kicking the ball into row Z and above all 'effort' and 'passion'. The point is they understand that kind of football - it's simple! - whereas the likes of Pep make you think way too deeply. It's dangerously 'foreign' to play as we do!

So yes, they actually prefer the kick-and-rush style, a sort of glorified Wimbledon FC with better players, and they will even tell you it's 'more entertaining'. I think at least some sincerely believe that it is!

Agree with that to an extent but it is just not the entrenched old-school view.. I know many neutrals without a skin in the game who prefer watching games with jeopardy rather than dominant, one sided matches.

Of course, all lIverpool fans, United fans etc etc and lots of the media say it differently...

I've completely changed my opinion of Connor Coady after that.

Previously I thought he was just another Dipper but he presented really well, spoke good of us and just came across as a decent likeable bloke.

"without a doubt" :-)
I was the same. Once you understand his accent he’s actually not that bad.

Thought he was quite fair and balanced overall.

We’ll see what happens when we win stuff with 4 or 5 academy players in the team which was always the plan of ADUG. My guess is the media will be saying this is what we should be doing with the best academy in football whilst they still wank themselves silly over the class of 92.

Over the last month or so we have taken apart Chelski, dippers and raggies. Let’s face it we have had some excellent press about the way that we have played. Even ratface has been eulogising on how good we are, ‘clones of David Silva etc, great academy and so on’. Add to that the public slagging off of the ‘media darlings’. Are we seeing a changing of the guard and a more favourable attitude towards us? Have they seen how we are attracting support, at last, for the football we are playing and we have a rapidly growing supporter base in spite of some of the media doing us down. Are we attracting more viewers on Sly and BT and hence the softening of their attitude towards us. I just sense this is happening.
Throughout the 60s kids were attracted to the rags, in the 70s and 80s it was the dippers, the 90s and 00s the rags again. Over the course of last 10 years the kids are choosing us in slowly increasing numbers. This reflects in the age profile of respective clubs wider support (not the crowd attendance, that is different). The media has to move with that and perhaps we are seeing the first signs of that.

Not just the last month. Last couple of years. Some will always see anti City, but in the main we are now the top club in the country, and it shows in the media more often than not.

Wait until we have three or four local, world class youngsters in the starting eleven that cost us absolutely nothing.

That's when they will have nowhere else to go, especially as they will be English.

Not one mention on Sunday that we had five English players in our starting line up.

Remember that old stick to beat us with...
Watching Palmer being replaced by McAtee felt like a watershed moment. One 19 year old local being replaced by another in an important game spoke volumes.

We all know that Pep doesn’t give away spots in the first team. You have to earn it through hard work on the training pitch, and it’s evident that Palmer and McAtee have done that.

I wonder what these commentators will say if, one day, we have the England front three with Phil, Cole and James?
