A calzone or a cheese burger?

Going to Frankie and Benny's tonight have decided I will have the Calamari for the starter and the rhubarb crumble and custard for pudding but can't decide the main course.Plase help.

Personally. Scrap the Calamari and order the Louisiana Buffalo Hot Wings with the Blue Cheese Dip. Insanely good.

For the main, I tend to either order the Philly Steak Bake or the American Hot Pizza with extra cheese and chillies.

Can't comment on dessert.

This sounds like a better shout.

You are going for something to eat tonight and you are spending your day deciding what to order?

Not everyone has our rich experience of dining out GSC, and the customs and practices that go with it.

My MO is to wait until I am at the restaurant and read the menu - at which point I decide what I am going to order. I also find being pleasant to the waiting staff often results in better service.

It's strange because that's what I thought everyone did, but as it turns out we are the ones who are doing it wrong.

Indeed. I think a big flaw in their approach is the possibility of the restaurant having run out of calzone, for example.

I would not be able to contain my disappointment at looking forward to such a culinary treat all day, only to be told that they've "had a run on calzones for some unknown reason, sir" (assuming they use that term of address in a 'Frankie and Benny's')

Another restaurant tip I am happy to pass on is when you are have finished your meal and are ready to leave, get the attention of the waiter/waitress and make a gesture as if you are writing with a pen. It signals that you are ready to receive the bill. When they acknowledge your request, remember to smile back knowingly, thus indicating that you understand that they have understood you.

I'm with both of you on this. I like perusing the menu, reading the descriptions, checking out other tables to see portion size. I must be doing it wrong then, if only my parents took me to a fake Italian restaurant of a Friday night.

Glad my recommendation will be taken on. Let me know how it goes.

I suppose the advantage of going to a McDonalds but with knives and forks is that there are only 4 or 5 different "meals" to choose from, so you can decide well in advance.

Or you could have the menu at home and tick off what you haven't had thus saving time when you get to the "food" place.

What about emailing them with your selections and what time you will be getting there (I believe it is known as a "booking" or "reservation") so your food can be ready upon arrival? If you do that, I would advise that you arrive when you say as your food may go cold, unless it is a salad, of course.
