A church at Maine Road? Well before my time.

My mum lived on a street that was on the field opposite the City Chippy.
She made pocket money by minding peoples bikes in the back yard.
Her and a friend would stand with a sign at the end of back alley and directing fans to her back yard.
Obviously a forerunner to the "mind yer car for yer mister" generation.
When she was 14 the family moved to the newly built Benchill / Wythenshawe and her lucrative sideline was over.....
With one subtle difference of course MES. When fans returned from the match, your mum hadn't long since scarpered! Whenever kids used to offer to mind my car for a quid, I'd always tell them they'd get paid when I came back. Strangely, that suggestion never went down well.

Used to give them 50p up front and tell them there'd be a quid upon return and the car still in one piece. They were always waiting!
