A church at Maine Road? Well before my time.

Nice scarf on the left. Were they common in the early '50s ?
yes they were usually knitted by your mother or auntie, also did you notice the kids in the short pants in them days you didn't wear long ones till you were over 14

Fascinating stuff! In all my years I never knew there used to be a church on Maine Road.
Ditto.
My Dad was going to Maine Road regularly in the late 1940s and 1950s and never mentioned it to me once.

I wonder if the "Repent All You Sinners" placard man was left behind by that church to try and convert the heathens descending on Maine Road every other weekend.

The church is in the background of this Bert Trautmann training photo from 1957.

The Main Stand was seated.

On the photo below the Main Stand roof looks a bit like the Kippax roof.

Platt Lane stand looked the same (after the New Main Stand roof was built) until that monstrosity of an enlarged Subbuteo like stand replaced it. I fuckin' hated the new Platt Land and Kippax stand. Two of many fuck ups sanctioned by the cheapskate, Swales.
