A debate with a proper rag

Now thats what i call a proper rag. ;)

I think i know him!

not sure we'd beat them but we'd be more competitive - we have more steel than United, Arsenal, or Real. It would probably be like how Tottenham at home was this year, only tenfold, may be able to catch them on a break or nick one off a corner as they don't have much height.

I figure if we played them ten times we'd win twice, which is more than most teams can say.

Fergie's tactics were Twitcher-esque! Shockingly naive considering his experience, you simply cannot play like that against them, and it was proven by the fact they basically had 10 men for the entire game as Chicarito was invisible - as I've said all along, he is a top class goal poacher but offers nothing else so if you aren't creating chances he is useless.

They should have added a fifth midfielder and made Rooney the only forward (as even he will track back and defend) then try and win the ball more than they did and catch Barca's defence, which is really nothing special, on the counter.

We'd do better than United and Arsenal (2nd leg) against Barca simply because we'd play a style that would get torn apart by the media but would see us slightly less decimated (a midfield of something like De Jong, Barry, Yaya, and Milner). We'd probably still lose but if we never lost discipline I reckon it'd be a 1-0 type result.

Totally agree fella.

thought they froze a bit last night and paid them far too much respect...it was men against boys...to be fair(ish) they were up against an exceptional side who were fantastic to watch, but I am convinced that we would have given them more of a game. As a side we are similar to Chelsea and this is the only British side to get anywhere near them, so I do think we would be closer.

Also showed Hernandez for the over-hyped player I think he is...a decent goalscorer against lesser teams, but for me he cannot do it in the really big games. If he played anywhere else he would not get half the praise he has got this year.

On recent form I'd definitely say we had a better chance of beating Barcelona than Rags, but whether that would be the difference between 4 shots and 5 is another matter.

But playing the likes of Giggs and Carrick in a midfield containing Messi, Xavi etc. is like pitting a tank against a pea. Against the likes of Yaya, De Jong and Silva they would have had a far more complicated task.

what makes me laugh about last night is all the people who go on about Baconface, he's been there done that, he's got bags of knowledge etc, etc. Last night he was tactically inept, you can't play 442 vrs Barca and certainly not with Giggs and Carrick in the centre. The only chance the rags had of winning was getting bodies in midfield and trying to strangle the life out of Barca's passing game then hitting fast on the break. I've always said Baconface is a luckier manager than a good one, his main asset is the magnificent will to win, never say die attitude he instills in his players, tactically he's a chump!!
As for the question, we would have given Barca a harder game but I don't think we could have beaten them.

I think we'd cope probably a little better than most. We're solid and hard to break down. Clean sheets against Arsenal, United (twice), Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs (twice) back this up. Barca are obviously on an entirely different level, and they'd be big favourites against anybody, but with a bit of luck, we'd have a chance.
