A few thoughts on yesterday

It's a genuine question posed within the context of this thread

well , i'm a recent fan , a glory hunter i would say.

then, with due respect, do you question other posters loyalty to mcfc?

when all said and done you would back mancini over the club, so your opinion, on an mcfc forum, isnt in the interest of the club. to question mcfc real fans opinions and loyalty is appalling.

1. Agree to an extent. Although in the last 2 league games at OT we've been behind and equalised only to concede late on. We needed to score first yesterday, then we can dictate the game. We've also beat Chelsea a couple of times after being behind and Utd in the SF at home last year.

2. The gap is closing. Best performance I've seen againt them. Apart from the 10 mins before HT after they scored, we were never under serious pressure.

3. Agreed. Zab is not a top class LB. I'd have played Lescott LB, Boateng CH.

4. Hopefully when Dzeko (and possibly Balo) bed in this shouldn't be a problem. Both are very direct.

5. Barry & Milner only played in CM because NDJ was injured. Looking forward a Lampard/Gerrard type player with NDJ would solve this problem.

6. Agreed about Kompany. Hope Boateng will fill this role alongside him.

7. Don't think it's an issue of pace. We need a midfielder who can shoot from distance and make runs into the box like Lampard/Gerrard/Scholes/Fabregas.

8. I think we do miss a driving force, who can really get a grip of the players, when we're losing a game. Pains me to say it, but we need a Keane type player to instill a winning mentality that a game is never over. As we've not won anything yet, this is understandable.

9. Not sure either United or Liverpool are going to get any stronger. Certainly not as much scope for improvement as us. Mancini has said all along that this team is not strong enough to win the league. CL qualification and a trophy to get the monkey off our back is the aim this season. I'd say another two years and we should be the finished article.

Keep the faith.

Agree totally with your comment re the Lampard/Gerrard type player. That's our biggest missing link at the moment in my opinion. The lack of goals from midfield hurts us.

This lack of goals from midfield is beginning to sound like a myth to me.

Yaya-6 goals (2 of them not credited to him against West Ham and Everton)
Barry-2 goals
Milner-1 goal.
Vieira-2 goals (not sure)

Apart from Kompany, J Boateng and De Jong, all our outfield players have scored in one game or another.

Thats about 11 goals so far from central midfield as i assume you're not talking about wingers (which rules out Nasri, Nani, AJ etc.). I don't know about the stats for other teams but that doesn't look not too bad considering we're still a new team and we've got strikers whose main job it is to get goals anyway. The Lampard and Gerard type players are quite rare i believe and though it would be an added bonus to have a player like that, it's not as big an issue as its sometimes made out IMO.

our loyalty to the club shouldnt be questioned just because yours is. of course people are going to question your loyalty, you became a fan of city when mancini took charge and you try to argue mancini's corner in blind faith, without a decent arguement and that is going to wind the reall blue's up.

its abit like someone jumping aboard a fad you have no idea about and then argueing with people who have been with the fad from the off just because they have differing views. its not just me picking you up on this, there are loads who have pulled you up on this

The one problem with us is winning mentality.

We weren't bad yesterday and deserved something out of the game, we do need more mobile midfielders but we knew this before the game yesterday.

I was fairly happy with the way we played and we were (for like the 100th time this season) desperately unlucky... In this case that a guy who scored 3 or so goals from open play in 1 year, managed to pull off a wonder goal that he'll never score again.

I just think we dont have the winning mentality and are just too unlucky.

In 27 league games, Yaya, Barry, Milner, NDJ & Vieira have scored 7 goals between them.

That figure flatters the contribution from central midfield as the highest scorer (Yaya - 4) has been playing off Tevez in a good few games.

When you've got someone who can pick a pass like Silva and hold the ball up like Tevez, I think we need to add someone dynamic from midfield who can make runs from deep and score a few more.

Listen everyone - we have made huge strides since the takeover - we all want it to happen overnight - it hasnt and wont - when was the last time we dominated them in midfield - step by step we will become what we all want MCFC to be - just have a little patience.

Scum have had 20 years to get this stage - with a bit of luck it will take us another 2-3 years to be in their position - enjoy the ride - I am sure there will be a few more blips before we really hit the big time - everything comes to he/she who waits

I agree with Blue for Life. This club had made huge strides both on and off the pitch. The Board appear to know what they want and how to achieve it. The team will have success but we do have to be patient. Also, for those of you advocating spending more big sums, remember that we have to comply with the UEFA Fair Play regulations regarding finances shortly and adding to the wage bill with new signings will make this more difficult. We have to trust that Board know how to address this problem and, if new signings are made, then they are able to juggle the accounts to conform. As for yesterday, we were not battered or outplayed but lost to a unique goal. Have faith.
