Belief isn't what I'd call it, it's bottle, we're lacking bottle, from Hart to Tevez, no belief but more so, no bottle.
These players don't know what it's like to fight for it, you've got the likes of Hart who's in his 3rd season of top class football, and like so many of these young players, has little heart.
If I've said it once I've said it 1000 times, while he might be the future, you need a 30something keeper in goals if you are serious about challenging for the title, had we had that, we wouldn't have seen so many costly mistakes in goals this year. He had a good opening game, good for him, but it's all been down hill from him since and he doesn't know what it is to fight, he's had it all handed to him. Should a new manager come in he seriously needs to consider the keeper situation, if he doesn't rate Given than he should bring in a more experienced keeper who is reliable and will get us to where we want to be.
We underestimated United, we think, on paper, that we're near them, but we're not. In points yes, in players on paper ya maybe, but when we see names like Fletcher and co we think that they're nothing compared to our stars studded players, but there's the difference, we've players, they've a team. and their players will work 10 times harder than ours.
And no matter how many times we say that they are where they are because of luck, because of teams bending over for them, because of bent refs, it doesn't work or add up, they've lost ONCE this entire season and I'm sorry but that only reflects a bloody good team. They will keep going untill Fergie retires and who knows what will happen after that.
Our tactics are all over the place and I don't know really what to think, it's all a bit forced a bit laboured, a bit out of touch. We thought that we could walk in with this top team and just walk it, pass United and their years of experience and skip hop jump to the top of the table.
But there are so many flaws in our team. We've individuals not teams, players being filmed out out student parties or on top of tables blind drunk, players who've been brought in and said here we're going to have a great team and do really well, but none of them had to fight for anything.
Look at our team, our best player was a United player, that says volumes. We're playing the golden English boy in goals we've brought in every one of these players as star signings. We haven't built a spine, we haven't warriors such to speak like the Vieira of Arsenal or Scholes or Gerrard.
We've no heart, we've no spine, the closest thing we have to a leader is Kompany.
What summed it up all for me was the derby.
So many people said that we outplayed them and Rooney was lucky, (deflection) to get the goal.
Rooney was shite for 99% of the game, but kept running kept looking for things to happen.
Tevez was shite and inexistant, he sulked in the corner.
90% of the teams in the Premiership could play a top 4 team and play as well as them and deserve a point or 3 for the majority play in the game.
But it's individual moments of brilliance that seperate the likes of Sunderland from Arsenal. We did something that any team could have done, they did something that very little teams could do. They had a top class player produce a top class moment to win them the game, and that at the end of the day seperates us from them.
We think we deserve to be a top team.
They know they are a top team, but more than that, just like the Arsenal and Chelsea, they work bloody hard for it.
We think we can get places with having a bunch of stars who don't put in the work, or know what it's like to have to fight for something, and we were sorely mistaken.
Our team on paper looks great but there are many many flaws in this team and it needs a serious look at in the summer.
We will look at this season again in the summer and we will think what stars we need to buy to fix it, which is wrong.
You can't buy success, you need the Darren Fletchers of the world. You need the hardworkers, the boys who will get in and do the donkey work etc. that have been around for a while in the depth of the squad, doing the hard work. And we don't have those players. We haven't put that time into developing those types of players. So when it comes down to it we don't have the grafters, just the stars, and somebody's got to link that play.
We will look at this season again in the summer and we will think what stars will we buy to fix it, which is wrong. You can't buy success. The sooner we realise that the sooner we might get somewhere.
I'm pretty sure I will be slaughtered for that. Yes it's so long that it wont get read I'd say, but really and truely we need to take a deap breath and take a good long look at ourselves.
