I think you'll find the local wine a pleasant surprise.

I have been all over Turkey the last 20 yearonecplace place would not go back to is Marmaris lol .It was non stop hassle all the time ,my mate goes there though nearly every year and loves it so each to there own
In Altinkum at the moment about an hour from Bodrum smashing little resort
I got holliday place here everyone seems much relaxed chilled out friendly plus a bit cheaper from big resorts ie £10 boat trip for 5 hours visiting 4 or 5 bays Chicken dinner on board plus taxi serviceI've stayed Bodrum area twice, bit nearer than where you are, Yalikavak is a nice little resort, not too busy but enough to sevice the nice restaurants etc, would definitely go back there.
Just had a gander at Altinkum online, looks nice.

Been to Kalkan five times and stayed in some very nice hotels (Pirat x 2, Happy Hotel, Kalamar Hotel and Samira Hotel (near the taxi rank). The views from the roof top restaurants are amazing. Food is of a high quality (try The Alternative for a steak). The locals are such good people, helpful and friendly. It's a couple of years since we last went as we now live in Spain, but if you want a piece of heaven for your holiday then give Kalkan a try.
The nicest was the Samira Hotel. There are three Samira establishments (hotels and self catering) which are spread around the resort. The hotel is the most conveniently situated as it is near the centre. The year after we went they carried out substantial refurbishments and increased their prices. If you choose this hotel then try booking direct given the good rate of exchange. The Kalamar and Happy hotels are situated near Kalamar Bay with fantastic views. Both are ok but situated about a mile from the centre. Both hotels provided a mini bus service into the town, once in the morning and once in the evening.Which was the nicest accommodation wise?
Sponsors of the rags ... I'd sooner walk.
