What wankers bully boys the guy is doing his job whether you like it or not smoking is banned and threataning people imposing the rule makes you really hard. Interesting that this incident should happen today because I was watching an apparent 'purge' on the smokers on one of the spirals at half time. I was watching from the 2nd level in the North Stand/East Stand corner. They had stewards in groups of 3's approaching anyone seen smoking.

I was talking to a senior steward who seemed to be keeping a watch on it from the windows and he told me it was a planned 'purge'. We watched people being approached and it seemed to be repeat offenders or ones who kicked off who got thrown out. The steward also told me that anyone thrown out today would not get their card back for the derby if at all for the restof the season.

I'm not a smoker and I would rather people were allowed to smoke on the spirals instead of having to take my kid into toilets full of smoke. It's not so bad near us but away games this year it's been a joke. I said this to the steward and he agreed but he said the smoking laws do not allow them to designate places like the spirals as legal places to smoke. And basically if City don't act then they are liable to prosecution.

Interesting bit for me is I know the worst places at COMS for where smoking is a problem, i.e. some of the toilets on the bottom level, yet they send these groups of stewards onto the spirals and leave that lone steward (mentioned by the OP) to tackle the hard nuts on his own.

Yeah, I saw like 3 stewards and 2 policemen on that spiral. Never really seen that before.

I understand from some of the people I sit with that it kicked off in the toilets on C spiral with some police involvement. Not sure if it's the same incident though.

That is shocking, at least the guy was okay but really he shouldn't have to put up with bastards like that, he's only doing his job and to make fun of him and treat him like that is appalling. Hopefully these guys will end up doing this to someone one day that will give them a good smack.

Quite the opposite - I was a smoker but I quit 8 months ago when a relative got throat cancer and at 28 thought "I really should pack this in". But I can still piss in there at half time, it is getting to the urinals that is the problem though as it is packed.

I would not call myself weak - I just think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. DO you not remember smoking on the terraces at Miane Road. Did you moan at smelling like a tramp then?

Maybe you do just smell like a tramp and smoking has nothing to do with it ;)

If you read through the thread properly, you'd have seen that the problem that most on here have is with the mob handed bullying of a lad that was only doing his job. Instead of telling people on here to shut up, you want to be telling those thick bastards in the toilets to show some respect.

swp, i am an ex-smoker and i also find it suffocating when dicks who can't wait 90 mins for a fag! what about the kids? why should they breath in some selfish wankers passive smoke? I thought it was only at school in the 80's when it made you hard if you smoked!

Not saying it is right and I am also an ex-smoker (8 months and off the patches). But the club should put something in place. There are thousands of smokers that will always smoke at half time. You and I both know that a city game as a smoker generally requires a smoke at some point.

As for the kids, you are right about the smoke but 2 mins having a piss will only equal one long walk down Deansgate for breathing in shite. - Why they cant just open the gates and let people back in with their tickets I don't know.
