of those maybe sneijder is a wow the rest are only as good as our best

Yeah right...:D

ok maybe a little tounge in cheek, but seriously i wouldn't be thinking wow considering who we already have, they are all high class players but not have me rushing out to get a shirt with their names on the back

So here's the WOW list made up of names mentioned over the course of this thread..

Messi....Unlikely
Xavi....Unlikely
Ineista....Unlikely
Pato...(Possible swap for Robbie if no cash is offered)
Torres....(not for sale)
Rooney....Ruled out by TH
Ronaldo....Ruled out by TH
Gerrard....(no intention of selling)
Sergio Ramos..Unlikely
Higuain..(Just signed new contract)
Schweinsteiger..Unlikely
Ibra....(ruled out move himself)
Maicon..Possible
Sneijder..Possible but unlikely
Robben..Unlikely

Note: Roy Hodgson said Torres was "not for sale at any price", but re-worded it when asked about Gerrard, "we do not intend to sell him", not he is not for sale. Only a subtle difference but is the door open for Gerrard?

my opinion its maicon that we are after.....TH referenced Arnie ....catchline "ill be back". ...we have been trying to get ballotelli and after those talks are done we will go back to try and to get maicon.....he would be a wow signing

the others are dzenko, ballotelli, kolarov and milner...the last 3 looking likely but noone seems sure about dzenko (maybe beacuse RM hasnt given up hope Ibra even thought recent media comments point ot their not being much chance....thoughone of the other iTK's (HB or TH or Fbloke said to take no notice of the media whatsoever)

thats my take on the situation anyway

but there is a question id like to ask the ITKS....khaldoonsaid that last seasons spending wouldnt be matched and that we had spent all that money to catcvh up and from that point on there would be investment on a smaller scale.....IF the targets come off together with the 3 we have already definaely got then that would probably be significantly more investment than last time

so the question is...why has the thinking changed and why have we gone all out again in the transfer market....????...not that im complaining but it doesnt seem to match what khaldoon was saying just at the end of the season about being more prudent

My feeling is that we need to take advantage of two conditions..

1) The aftermath of the latest financial crisis have left a number of clubs in a tight spot => We got money

2) Clubs need to adjust themselves to not compromise the UEFA financial regulations => we might get players now if we flash the cash.

It´s a very common strategy in Abu Dhabi as they are used to the "Ooh, it´s Abu Dhabi! Quick, add 50% on the price" mentality. Much like how City are looked upon today.

I am guessing when he said that (a) he would not want other clubs thinking we were spending a huge amount in future (puts prices up?) (b) shutting up the likes of twatini (c) probably Bobby Manc expressed a view that a lot more needed spending on what he inherited to make us title challengers this season; however I am not ITK!

i think some are seeing to much in this wow factor with the likes of messi, ronaldo and the like.

maicon is wow to me so id say TH means along the lines of this but i could be wrong!

and I've mentioned Milito......don't think he wants to tell us, he is still teasing ;)

would you class millito as wow seeing as we already have carlito

Fellow countryman of Carlito, helps to keep him happy and settled, the only problem is that he doesn't seem to fit the criteria of being a "young un", so must be a n other ;)

(was just trying to narrow down TH options)

I'm a KFA but I'd suggest that when Mancini and Marwood sat down to a post-season assessment of the squad they decided that some of Hughes's buys weren't up to the standard we needed to break into the very top group of clubs. Also the Twatini reforms now seem to have firm dates for their introduction so I'm guessing the policy is to mostly bring in players in their mid 20s or younger so that we can build a squad that will last for a good few years and basically put the lid on the big spending after this season.

Looks like Mesut Ozil is for sale. Now that would be an interesting purchase
