A message to Villa fans

To be honest I have not met one Villa fan who thinks this is Man City's fault. Not one. To think along those lines smacks of paranoia. Man City does not even come into the fall out between O'Neill and Lerner. I've a lot of time for City and have a few family members from Moss Side and I was made up for them when the club was taken over by big money...after all the years of being a piss poor runt of a football club it's the very least their loyalty deserved.

The most striking thing about this thread is how on earth the OP could state that Martin O'Neill is English! If that's the level of insight we have on Bluemoon these days then how on earth can Man City supporters be taken seriously in debates? Embarrassing.
Onto football matters. It'll be an interesting season ahead, but as always I'll put my money on the club that created this magnificent competition back in 1888 to come out fighting. We've seen plenty of comings and goings at Villa Park on our way to plenty of successes and failures over the years. Even in this era of financial doping that has seen the likes of Blackburn, Chelsea and others rise to the top I'm pretty sure Villa will - as always - be the greater bet for the long term. O'Neill goes (he did a fine job) but we don't stand still. We move on and we progress.

To try to be fair to the OP I think he meant to say british.Or he meant to say working in the English Premiership At least i hope he did or you may have a point regarding bluemooners :-(

You should probably just speak for yourself in future - and I doubt Villa fans will appreciate the sentiments either.

I was speaking for myself mate, "Sorry, no sympathy from me"

And I'm not arsed if Villa fans appreciate the sentiment - I didn't appreciate their sentiments towards Barry last season..

Sorry WB should've made it clear, wasn't replying to your post, was replying to the original poster.

A sizeable proportion of Villa fans seem to think that O'Neill has 'taken them as far as he can' and he should move on, exactly what Charlton fans said about Curbishley because all he ever did was finish mid-table in the Premier League and look where they are now.

Villa fans have always been a moaning faced bunch prepared to abuse their own players, and talk about fickle, a couple of poor results and Villa Park is half empty; remember the Cup game a few years back when we practically outnumbered them?

They showed their true colours with the abuse of Barry, fuck 'em.

Whoah there. Where were City in the table when Hughes was dismissed? I worked in Manchester for several years, and generally found City fans to be a sound bunch, but the Arab money seems to have given a few of you an over-inflated sense of your own self importance. You might be the richest club in the world, but you still haven't won anything since God was a lad. I'd be interested to see the stats that show a half empty Villa Park after a bad result as well.

Weirded out by the anti-Villa stuff on here the last couple of days. I've always liked them as a club and always found their fans to be sound lads in the main, home and away.
The Barry thing was fairly tasteless given his service to the club, but totally predictable and in many ways understandable.
O'Neill is an excellent manager. Look at his record of trophies, for example, compared to ours.
It's a shame for them all round and it seems their owner has a lot of questions to answer.

I'd say that Villa fans are generally pretty fair when it comes to ex-players, until that is, they start getting too big for their boots, and in that sense, I don't believe that we're any different to anybody else.

As for O'Neill, his trophy haul consists of two league cups that he clogged his way to with Leicester, and a few trophies in the two horse race in Scotland, during which time Alex mcLeish won just as much.

His media profile is completely out of kilter with his actual achievments in the game in my opinion.

OK people, I'm sorry!

Lol, let's just change the English manager bit to Brittish, and add that I wasn't saying it was our fault just saying shit happens and we were probobly the straw that broke the cammels back, they're not the rags so if feel a bit sorry for them.

And the twats waving the notes at Barry were about 0.05% of their fan base, so I don't dislike Villa/their fans for it.

:)

Oh and I'll add this so nobody else can do it:

It seemed from the outside looking in that O'Neil was well supported during his time at Villa. He'd maybe not agree

However what this demonstrates is how wrong the idea was that City could gradually improve season on season and break the top 4. The Villa model was one we were told would work and bring us success unfortunately it would only work if everybody else promised to not progress.

O'Neil improved Villa but had assembled a squad of decent dependable players. Unfortunately they had too few exceptional players which are required for the extra push. Liverpool found the same. You can't win much these days with a squad full of £10m players - you need the calibre of player in key positions that cost big money (over spending on average players don't count)

I doubt this is purely a result of a single transfer issue - I seem to remember a fair but of unrest last season there

I'm down in the Midlands now and again and have witnessed a fair bit of bitterness towards City from Villa fans, but no more or less than from any other supporters.

I honestly couldn't care less what happens at other clubs or what other supporters say. Why would I when I'm riding the crest of a wave with my beloved City?
