Hi everyone,

Just wanted to tell you about a City website I launched today.

I used to run Purely Man City, but have spent the last few years researching the club's history. I'm going to be putting a huge amount of new material online, and hopefully will be able to get the word out that City are indeed one of the most historic clubs in football.

If you've got any comments or questions about the site I'll be be happy to answer them.

You can view the site at http://www.mcfchistory.com.

Great. I used to really enjoy purelymancity and really missed it when you stopped. I still go back to the bookmark for reference... This site looks like it will be fantastic.

Both threads are possibly a little out of date with the info that has been found out since primarily by Gary James, but still they are an interesting look at our History.

In my next "Big Book Of City" (which hopefully should be out before Christmas - details will be announced on http://www.facebook.com/GaryJames4 very soon I hope) I will be spelling out the facts of the period 1865-1887 and outlining the myths, truths, unknowns, and where the research has come from and the myths developed. There's a lot to say on all of this.

I suggested setting up a City Historical Society a few years back but had only 2 responses, if there are people out there keen perhaps we could try again?

Silvercloud,
Good point. I should point out that I'm quite lazy, so it's really more like 4 years' research spread out over 6.

Didsbury Dave,
Book's coming out next month.

Prestwich_Blue,
Well, I'm going to write a piece next week, prompted by Saturday's disgraceful MOTD, that should very much upset Alan Hansen.

Too smug and thick-skinned ever to be upset by other opinions but if anyone needs a good metaphorical kicking, after Shearer, that is, it has to be ScottoScouse!

The table is rather interesting. Would counting wins rather than points get us further up?

I'm interested. I think it's particularly apt at the moment, especially as we're so often accused by know-nowts of lacking history.

I also look forward to following the progress of the website and reading the above in the new Big Book of City.

A City Historical Society is a great idea. And good luck with the next "Big Book Of City" - I'm looking forward to reading it.

-- Tue Sep 27, 2011 9:33 am --

Not sure. I toyed around with a few points systems, but it was mainly to ensure that United didn't finish top.

How about a history thread where found artefacts can be shared and discussed? I just had a quick look at the google news archive and found this little gem. It seems we invented the prima donna footballer, long before the likes of Robinho et al...

Actually, I'm planning to run a story about Russell. There's another clipping from the same newspaper from the following year that details his off-the-field activities whilst playing for Forest:

Davie, who was passionately fond of the ladies, had been enjoying himself not wisely but too well, and on entering the Grimsby enclosure with his team Davie was met with loud cries of "How are the twins, Davie?" This was more than even the "prince of half-backs" could stand, and he left the field, for which his committee suspended him.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think "the twins" might be a reference to his testicles.
