Hi everyone,

Just wanted to tell you about a City website I launched today.

I used to run Purely Man City, but have spent the last few years researching the club's history. I'm going to be putting a huge amount of new material online, and hopefully will be able to get the word out that City are indeed one of the most historic clubs in football.

If you've got any comments or questions about the site I'll be be happy to answer them.

You can view the site at http://www.mcfchistory.com.
Bloody hell, David Weir was playing in 1890. Is he still playing at Rangers now? Old bastard!

A little aside mate, any chance that the links could open in a seperate window, just one of my pet hates lol

Yeah, I know what you mean but I'm pretty sure that's possible on the platform I'm using.
I'll look into though, as I would prefer links to come up in a separate window.

Balls. That should have read "not possible".

appears in a separate window for me!
firefox on an imac.....
good read, look forward to the updates
and great comment btw about tevez clothing line (only available in plus sizes)
that did make giggle

Interesting about Clayton Aniline and the Dreyfus connection.

I'm sure I know what you're going to reveal about that and how significant it is in world history. I remember we've had a conversation about Arthur Balfour (of Balfour Declaration fame) and his links with City previously.

So not only have we ruined football and the moral fibre of the kingdom, we're also responsible for the mess in the Middle East.

Nice to see. As always if there's anything I can help with...

Good luck with it all.

As you say on your blog, the key thing is to get to primary sources. So many people researching football history just go off the myths and stories that have evolved over the years.

The Golden Penny article is interesting because it focuses on 1887 as the formation of the Club, rather than 1880 (and before). That's always been a shame as this ultimately led others to suggest the Blues are not as old as Utd or others.

Anyway, as I said, the offer is there as always if you need help, advice etc.

Prestwich,

Dreyfus was actually the leader of the Manchester Zionist movement, which was probably the most powerful Zionist group of the time. He also employed a chemist at the Clayton Aniline called Chaim Weizmann, who later became the first President of Israel.

The link between City, Balfour and Israel is also a strong one. Chesters Thompson, who I mentioned in the piece today, was Balfour's election agent and played a key role in his rise to power.

Hi Gary,

Great to speak to you at last, and you're right, there are far too many myths that people have taken for facts over the years.

Yes, I'd love to have a more detailed chat with you about City's early years. I'm going to be running a piece about the Maltese Cross design on Gorton's shirts next week and will be putting forward a new theory for its origins. So I'd be fascinated to hear your thoughts.

Many thanks to everyone for their kind words. I've got to go and write tomorrow's piece now but will be back later.

That really is astonishingly good. Balfour's election agent working where the new training ground is going to be, Allisons ruffling feathers in the 1880's to the 1980's, booze and the punt funding the early years. I've read gary's books but you cant get enough of this stuff. Cant wait for the next instalment. Great work
