stirlingblue said:For anyone travelling from Glasgow or Edinburgh don't forget to book 2 return tickets! One GLA/EDI to PRE (Full price £33 return) and another PRE/MAN (FP £10 return). Total undiscounted fare £43 return (any train). It is also ok to stay on same train, if direct, but most trains you have to change at Preston anyway.
With railcards usually deduct about a third from the adult fare c £30 net. Kids under 16 travel for peanuts c £6 this way.
Myself and lad travel most home games this way and it never costs me more than £36 GLA - MAN same day, any train, return for the 2 of us. Don't even think about taking the car anymore unless for a night game. The cost of fuel alone is at least double the above figure plus parking on top, which means we can go to twice as many games for the same price.

good tips mate,ta
Only just seen your post Ledge but your assumption re groups is correct. We've been going by train a couple of years now and can't believe we didn't do it sooner. My preconceived idea was that it would be way too expensive , probably as it costs me > £13 to get into Edinburgh to work per day by train! The Ledge said:I'm thinking of doing the Everton game by train for the first time - usually take the car but fancy enjoying a few beers for a change. I've had a look and taking my seven-year-old it'll cost £69.00 return for the two of us.
I played about with the Railcard though and the price came out at £39.10 if I have a Friends & Family Railcard which only costs £28.00 - surely this is a no brainer, especially as we would take the train more regularly? I have to admit to knowing nothing about Railcards but I presume that as long as I took my son then other adults (up to 4) could join us at the discounted rate on the single card?

Nice to be able to have a celebratory drink on the way home as well rather than using that cash to pay for deisel!

I'm now a convert.
Got the Family & Friends Railcard now and got booked up for myself and Mini Ledge for £42.00 return (it went up a couple of quid). Great to be able to have a few beers and not have a day to recover from 8+ hours in the car! To coin an InterCity tagline... this is the age of the train.
Who else is going to be at Waverley at 07:30 in a fortnight?
