I believe the Americans developed the first sub made for military purposes now i am not sure if it was for use against us or the civil war.

My answer is for question 2,

British Navy was first attacked and it was by the Americans.

Note: Not googled...but damn i want to verify hehe.
Wrong inventor, wrong target.

It possibly was but it's not the right answer. Think about who invented the submarine - and where.
Wiki says it was the American Civil war, but you don't mean it was the bloody Greeks, do you? Or that Dutch bloke?

English Queen or Queen of England, pendantically?

First Sub was designed by a Dutch fella but i can't remember his name.

So if it was by the dutch then my answer is against us again but by the Dutch :-D

Edit: Just seen mad4city's reply, ok i am stumped, fuck off :-D

First time a ship was sunk by a submarine was a union ship being sunk by a confederate submarine in the American civil war, 1864.

Cheating, ahem - research suggests Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, William IV's wife.

Great question, btw.

I never said it wasn't but it wasn't the first navy to be attacked bu a submarine.
Actually, I thought you'd know this off the top of your head!

Well, technically she was holed below the waterline and scuttled by the crew.

Really?

Well, the answer in the pub quiz I was at, last night was Queen Ann (hence the bow legs clue) - and we guessed correctly, too. F**k em. They're not getting their wine & chocolates back now.
Apologies to all, if it wasn't who I thought.
I'm definitely right onvthe submarine question, though.
Not American, Confederate, British, Dutch, Spanish or Greek or Roman or Venetian or whatever.
Happened in the 1800's.
