There was an early 70's film I cant recall the name... tough guy comes out of jail... a few people want him dead but he keeps beating them all up!

Was it called donavon a bald fella I used to no was in it ,he's named Charlie and he lived in higher Broughton.

Yes, Stalyvegas town hall, I seem to think it was demolished because it was riddled with rot.

Town hall, Hardcastles toy shop, Bernie Wallis's shoe shop, Eric Sellers motorbike shop, The Palace cinema, Sids,.....happy days.....Even Nimmers will remember them.

My brother and I were both in Yanks too but to be fair, so was everyone else in our village!

wasnt billy liar filmed around ashton....i seem to remember being told they filmed some scenes in the old roller disco (wheels) which used to be a night club

Billy Liar was filmed in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Ironically the closing scene where Billy leaves on the train for London was shot at Marylebone Station in London!

I'm pretty sure that Billy Liar was filmed in Nottingham.

No, you have it mixed up with Saturday Night, Sunday Morning - that was Nottingham (when the two soldiers give Albert Finney a good hiding at the Goose Fair).
As I said above, Billy Liar was Bradford, West Yorks

One other 60's film not mentioned, Charlie Bubbles.
Another Albert Finney film, starts in London but he heads north (via Newport Pagnall services) to Salford, a very demolished Salford on some of the shots.
Takes his son to The Swamp too. (his son isn't interested!)
His estranged wife (Billy Whitelaw) lives in Hayfield or Buxton.... a still from the film featuring Whitelaw was used by The Smiths on the cover of the ''William it was really nothing'' single.

Think he directed it..... either way he is shagging Lisa Minnelli in it.....
and to bring it back round to A Taste of Honey, Shelagh Delaney co-wrote the script!
