A thread about protesters

He could well have been a random guy picked up off the street, these organisations rarely have structures or indeed leadership models. They are a group pf protestors with a common goal.

If you ever feel you need to protest about an issue, will you be happy for people to want to close down your democratic rights and then mock you, wish harm on you and call you a hypocrite who just wanted 15 minutes of fame or are you so vacuous you would never consider protesting about anything, you would gladly let others do it or just be a sheep and Baa Baa Baa your way through life suffering indignity and injustice.

Those who wish to close down protest are behaving in an anti democratic manner and will no doubt be the first to complain when the country is an authoritarian shit show ruled by a demonic despot.
I watched Richard Madeley twice bitching about this protester, thought he made himself look a complete knob, he obviously cared more about the unfortunate person on their way to hospital than his own grandchildren who will develop health problems directly related to climate change

I think he probably cared more about 'making good TV'

So, random guy off the street and a bunch of mainly elderly, middle class time wasters. What's not to get excited about comrade.

Well...he was the spokesperson, so yes. If he wasn't representative of the movement why was he the spokesperson. Or maybe he was a hypocrite who just wanted his 15 minutes of fame.
A spokesperson might represent the movement but isn’t necessarily representative of it. I’m sure it’s made up of quite a cross section of people

You keep referring to them as middle class, which is a line the RW media use to invalidate protest, the middle class, the upper class, my nieces primary school class all have the right to protest. Stop protest, harm democracy, encourage despotism. The likes of Patel want to curb protest, not so people can get to appointments at the dentist, but because that makes them supreme and they become omnipotent.

I reiterate, i do not necessarily support their cause, just as i certainly do not support the likes of the EDL but i absolutely support their democratic right to protest. Any erosion of the ability to protest is dangerous, because what happens if any UK government introduce legislation that says something like all Mancunians will be forced by law to eat their own babies. NOBODY can protest that decision, because the right to protest will be gone.

I liked his insistence on calling them fascists using the dictionary definition, despite the fact that they are obviously not fascists because they have none of the main tenets and don't want to occupy or co-opt government.

Always had more ambition than brains, he is the delboy of the shockjock world.

Yes, but at what cost....If I put an 8 ton builders skip full of rubble across your drive and prevented you from going about your lawful business in protest at next doors cat shitting on my lawn, that's OK is it as it's my democratic right to protest....There is protest and there is obstruction.

I would assume your bats had left your belfry and recognise you may have a legitimate concern. Then and here is the crucial thing, i would address your concerns rather than make new laws to stop you dropping rubble on my drive and see if we could come to a solution that would happily take into account the concerns.

Of course it is. We have a 'Brickie' who's inherited property that he doesn't give a shit about, retired teachers, retired vicars, and not one black person amongst them.
Defenders of these lunatics give no shits whatsoever about
the helpless woman, ( Sorry Labourites, that thing with a cervix), being rushed to hospital with a stroke, but trapped in a car for 6 hours, and being paralysed because she couldn't get there. If this were one of mine, I'd personally get straight to the mouthpieces of this insane cult, and effect my own protest.
These actions are now virtually guaranteed to be the cause of deaths, or serious injury, this lady may yet be one of them, some clowns leaping in front of cars are going to cause yet more pile ups and the results will be horrific.
We'll discuss their right to protest, in a little more detail then.

Not often I agree with you and I’m not with you all the way here but while I support their aims I don’t always like their methods.

Blocking the motorways is stupid and as we have seen has unintended consequences. Blocking ports, distribution centres etc makes more sense in that people might be inconvenienced (a bit like the Brexit inspired supply chain issues) but no one is likely to die. If they blockaded container ships bringing tonnes of plastic crap from China for Christmas I’d applaud them.

Posh pricks deluding themselves that their actions will change anything.

There aim is to insulate the homes of the UK. Pretty sure their actions are knocking on an open door, unless people think we shouldn’t have houses properly insulated?

Come to think of it, is anybody here thinking of removing their loft insulation in protest at the protests?

That’s a very well considered take. Do you think anything needs to change in respect of the environment and climate change or do you think it’s all a bit overplayed? Does the UK do enough or can it never be enough working in isolation?
