A thread about protesters

And that’s the weird thing. No one can articulate a case against insulating homes, yet this form of protest seems to enrage some people beyond all reason. People wanting them hurt/maimed or killed. Now we are celebrating them going to prison/hunger strike. And all for a cause there is no rationale reason to oppose.

You think they were rightly sent to prison. Do you think peacefully obstructing traffic for a few hours is a prisonable offence?
Once it’s got an injunction yes.
They are utter cunts who have no idea what they are doing.
I’d happily pay their air fare to let them protest in Beijing.

They haven't been put in prison for obstructing traffic, they have been put in prison because they have broken an injunction and were likely to break it again upon release.

Don't break the injunction, don't go to prison.

And yes people are enraged, because insulation is the last thing on your mind when you're fighting traffic trying to get to work and some middle-class nigel who doesn't need to work is led in the road.

It really is that simple.

Amazing the amount of hate aimed at these protesters when compared to the complete apathy and acceptance towards Johnson and his gang of cunts .

Johnson is a tit as well, the thing is though unlike the protesters we can get rid of him.

If Labour were in then would they show apathy and lenience to the protesters? If so then that just goes to show why they aren't winning an election anytime soon.

The injunction criminalises a specific form of peaceful protest. Basically it’s ‘don’t protest or you will go to prison’.

And it’s not really about what or how they are protesting, it‘s who is protesting that really enrages you and why you want to see them locked up. The idea it is some privileged ‘Nigel’ preventing ‘working folk’ from going about their business.

It is the identity of the protestors that triggers the obsessive hate.

The measure of fitness to govern is how willing they are to lock up people for staging a peaceful sit-down in a road?

Corruption, incompetence you can take or leave but it’s essential the Govt sates your animus to a certain section of the population? All very authoritarian.

It doesn't matter what you say Bob, there's sections of society who just hate protesters and believe that they are all workshy grifters just out to cause a nuisance to the ordinary working man.
Regardless of the subject of protest these people who sneer at them will continue to do so because that's just the kind of person they are. As long as their life is rolling along nicely not one fuck is given to issues like insulation.

Although reading posts saying leave it to your wonderful government to sort it all out has been a particular highlight. They certainly have a great track record...

Bob, this is not criminalising anything, that's not what an injunction is. Injunctions seek to specifically prevent something happening that is causing or may potentially cause others trouble which is exactly why these protesters stand in a road and don't stand at the side of it.

The thing you are missing is the government didn't impose the injunction because they can't, they can only apply for one. Only the courts can grant an injunction and only a judge can decide whether an injunction is broken along with the appropriate punishment for doing so.

Had the protesters broken the law by obstructing the road then they'd face a £200 fine. Breaking an injunction is completely different and it carries any sentence that a judge fancies dishing out. In this case one geezer was given 6 months because he literally said in his defence in court that he needed to be imprisoned or else he'd go and break the injunction again.

How do comments on the breaking of a court injunction and the subsequent sentencing equate to hating people?

The post immediately following yours refers to them as ‘utter cunts’ and repeats the obsession about sending them to China, and Tiananmen Square specifically, to be crushed.

Not exactly the language of love is it?

Anyone with a differing opinion on here is an “utter ****” but we love each other really .

Honestly, the right message, they just went down the wrong route for me and then defied the courts which was really stupid.

This would have been funnier if you had used ‘road’ rather than ‘route’...

There must be an awful lot of influential haters, they must have persuaded the judiciary to hate them.

The fact is, and it is a fact, judging by the public response, is that the overwhelming majority despise these people, their few supporters are simply pissed off that anarchy hasn't won.

I’m too old to rock the ‘Che Guevara’ t-shirt, but if the new anarchy message is ‘insulate your home’ and ‘affordable loft cladding for everyone’ then I’m in.
