A traffic cone

ashley young has ripped many defences this season and considering bridge has been carrying a knock i dont think he was too bad. fantastic team effort today. lets get behind the lads for the spurs game.

Bridge is mediocre personified. He's bloody awful at some things and quite decent at others, but his overall play is really really average. Pretty obvious why he was backup at Chelsea for so long and I can only see him in our future turning to backup once we find a younger and better LB...not that there are many out there, though.

Bridge was decent going forward but defensively he was too narrow most of the time and this allowed a lot of crosses to come in from his side. He's not the answer for next season that's for sure.

I agree somewhat with bridges performance, young must have put in about 10 crosses from his side.

I wouldnt be too surprised to see a 4-3-2-1 formation vs spuds

Richards - Kolo - Kompany - Bridge
-----Zabaleta-De Jong-Barry------
AJ-------------------------Bellamy
------------Tevez-----------------

This isnt what I want to see but I souldnt be surprised if we did, Zaba is in great form and he might even start at LB

Exactly this. When SWP came on at the end, anyone else see Bridge just make the assumption he was going off? Not sure if thats because he was injured or just realised that Young well and truly had the better of him.

Sylvinho got the treatment off Lennon earlier in the season, i am praying its not the same again for Wayne on Wednesday night but I'm not holding my breath. He backs off and backs off , all the winger needs to do is run at him, he'll get the ball another 15 yards further.

And at last people can see its now its not just because Robinho is leaving him exposed, its because Bridge is simply not good enough.

Unfortunately it wasn't just today....been saying for a while. He's the weak link in the back four. He's fine bombing forward trying to support Bellamy, but his primary job is as a defender. He NEVER stops a cross going over from his side...NEVER. He backs off, backs off, no tackle, then the winger just crosses it. What is he actually achieving defensively by doing that? Feels bad to criticise him today when the team have put a shift in, but it shouldn't detract from the fact that as a defender, he is found wanting constantly.

Very good point about Robinho!

Oh and on a sidenote, I've just noticed on the MEN ratings, Bridge has scored the same mark as Kompany!!!!! OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!

I must admit, i too was getting frustrated at how Bridge never stopped the crosses from coming in. It was Villa's only threat really. All credit to the centre backs for getting most crosses away from danger, as Bridge really didn't help them at times today. But we must also remember that he's only just back from injury.

This is exactly my point. Maybe i should not have started this thread so quickly after a fine team performance, however my thoughts immediately switched to Spuds and the threats in their side.

Lennon roasted Sylvino last time out and what with bridge being so static i fear the sequel is fast approaching. He needs protecting, I would be inclined to play zaba in midfield so he can track him all game.
