A trip down memory lane around Manchester....

Tons of interesting footage in this , pretty grim though
I guess most of the people in this are now dead which is sobering if you grew up in the 80s and sometimes feel it was only five minutes ago!

Nothing has changed since 1982 with the care in the community nonsense, still throwing people on the streets. If anything it has gotten worse and people in general have gotten less compassionate.

Probably quite a reliable bit of kit.

Funnily enough, I remember when rear-engined buses were introduced. There were endless problems with reliability, especially with Leyland Atlanteans, which were a bit shit. Stockport refused to buy any, right until SELNEC took them over.

did it stand for South East Lancs North East Cheshire? I'm sure GMPTE took over SELNEC
Yes it did stand for that. It changed it's name to Greater Manchester Transport in 1974 and that in turn became GMPTE later in 1974. I still remember fondly the old buses open at the back when you could hop on and off!
