A wee Dram

My mate and a top blue works in Bowmore distillery

I have a nice wee bottle of Glenfiddich at home

Islay please and Laphroaig in particular. My Dad loved Highland Park which is less peaty a wee bit smoother and sweeter but still smoky enough for my liking. Can't get on with the speyside sherry cask brigade.

Macallans, Glenmorangie Portwood or Balvennie Doublewood are my 3 clear favourites.

Distilled for years and years then people pour tap water into them!!! Just don't get that. Only drink it neat myself.

The Portwood is supposed to be excellent. However you're wrong about adding water to whisky. I used to be a purist but it's actually quite alright to add water (preferably soft spring water) to malt whisky as it can often bring out different flavours. It very much depends on the whisky and how much you add.

Not a whiskey fan myself, prefer bourbons but Crown Royal is my favourite.Canadian whiskey, very smooth.

Fair enough PB - just seems to remove flavour when I have tried it. Might try again one day.

the portwood is lovely - got a pinky colour too it if you hold it up to the light. after 12 years it is transferred into an old port barrel for a couple of years to soak up the flavour and colour out of the wood. Balvennie Doublewood uses the same process.

Treated myself to a 20 year old Laphraoig for my 30th. Was fucking beautiful.

Visited a distillery near Loch Lomond a few years ago, the Glengoyne Distillery. Bought myself a 15 year old single malt from there. Lovely drop.

Staying at Cameron House in October - you ever been to the Whisky shop in Inverary The bloke who owns it has incredible knowledge. Gives out free samples too. Wall to wall whisky - literally.

Edradour is probably the nicest i've ever had. Unfortunately you can't get it in the shops, you have to go to the distillery or maybe an online specialist, as most of their whiskey goes to Japan and the states.

I've been around this distillery, the smallest in Scotland, apparently, The Laphroaig one on Islay too but never really had a taste for malts, a good blend does me, although I do have a real fondness for brandy. Anyone else prefer an alternative tot to Scotland's finest?

Picked up a bottle of glenmorangie original and auchentoshan 12 last night.

Only been drinking single malt for two years but been doing the lighter ones so far. Had a few macallans that's as far as I go for a heavyweight

I'll move to the Islay ones in a year or so
