Human rights have, to a significant extent, been oppressed in this country for the vast majority of its history. Don't let the existence of Magna Carta fool you into thinking otherwise. Assuming that any rights we enjoy today should be taken for granted is dangerous.

Bowing to your superior knowledge on matters of Law, i was under the impression that until the HRA had been passed all we had was Magna Carta.

Is that correct?
Haha! I'm not an expert pal, but we had the ECHR before the HRA. There was also the 1688 Bill of Rights, plus lots of common law rights, like the right to silence.

That'll be the right to silence that has been subverted by the govt so that juries can read into it whatever they want?

Just Tory bashing from the usual suspects. Any issue, their stance will always be opposite to what the Tories do. As for this campaign, what is the money going to be spent on?

Not entirely directed at you

My take is that the reason for the proposed change(s) is to stop people abusing the Human Rights act. Although only small in number, the number of cases where clever lawyers have used technicalities in a criminal's favour is a reason for at least amending the act.

Your argument about protecting everyone's human rights is valid, but it is extreme and based on your ideology and want for your utopia.

No law abiding, honest person need worry about their rights being affected

And as for the fund, I contributed to the last fund as I have a particular dislike for the way Police handle certain situations and the cause was just. It was a personal case and the platform was needed to initiate the change in law.

This time around, I fail to see what the money would do as this is a much "bigger" issue involving millions of people and is a policy at the top of the Government's "to-do" list.

(I used the term "bigger" but in no way mean to belittle the #stillachildat17 campaign)

Subverted maybe, but there's still a right to silence.
