A footballer who has played for the England team was today arrested on suspicion of sex with a 14-year-old girl, it has been reported.

Police also found a loaded firearm at the player's mansion, but it is understood to be legal, it was said.

Three cop cars with plain clothes officers and a van drove into the property around 9am today.

Forensics officers also arrived as part of the probe. Officers were seen searching a garage on the property.

A neighbour told The Sun: "You could tell they were police officers, they were all dressed in black.

"I haven’t seen the player all day. I just assumed there had been a burglary."

A source said: “He has been arrested over claims he has had a relationship with a girl aged 14.”

The player has not been named but is reportedly a regular his Premier League club.

An England footballer is believed to have been arrested over allegations that he had sex with a 14-year-old girl.

The unnamed footballer, who also plays in the Premiership, was picked up at his home at 9.15am and police discovered a gun in the house, according to The Sun.

The gun was loaded, according to the paper, but legally owned.

A neighbour told the paper: ‘I haven’t seen the player all day. I just assumed there had been a burglary.

‘As far as I know he lives there with his girlfriend.’
