Sinclair fee is touted as about £4m. That represents good business to me.
Unless Sinclair plays like absolute dogshit then we have weakened the squad for a bit of cash. That's the old City way.
Sinclair is a better fit at City than Johnson, and also provides many of the plus points as AJ with fewer drawbacks. He's also shone in a passing/domination based system at Swansea and along with Dyer was an outstanding performer there. I'm surprised he's costing us so little to be honest.
Have no problem with AJ, but he didn't fit our system and has quite probably found his level in a "might challenge for top six" side. The very highest levels are all about consistency and reliability, and we cannot hold on to him any more.
Sinclair is young yet experienced, paradoxically. He has room to grow in the squad, helps fulfill any homegrown quotas that may exist in the future and is an exciting player.
I think the question we need to ask ourselves, is whether Adam Johnson would ever become a world class player at City. Considering that he's 25 now, and as a tricky winger has about 5 years or so left in his career, the chances are slim.
Sinclair is two years younger and a better fit for the way we play, and it makes us a good few million. I see no drawback for City, Swansea, Johnson or Sinclair here, this is a rare deal that seems to suit all parties.
