Adam Johnson discuss.....

Keep him. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't as effective as he might have been last season but barring a four-game run in Feb/March he very rarely got consistent game time, which is what any decent player needs to show their best form.

Even this notwithstanding he still managed to chip in with a decent number of goals and assists.

I would never call him lazy, i sit 4 rows from the front in CB stand and whenever he comes on he always runs his socks off, if anything his positional sense lets him down a bit, probably because when he doesn't have the ball(as an attacking player) he's looking to get forward too quickly rather than play it out slowly and build up an attack so sometimes can get left in no mans land. Also iv'e noticed even tho not a big lad on occasions he does put himself about and not afraid to put a tackle in!

For me he appears to have lost confidence or maybe Bobby has had a word to him.. he used to do the step overs then hit the line at rapid pace and got so many assists doing that... now he does nothing but run the ball inside then makes just an easy pass lay off and thats about it.. weird.

Just not good enough. Too slow, no skill, poor crossing ability and just overall an average premier league player. No harm of us selling him and it biting us in the arse as he is simply not good enough for a top team. He might do well for a mid table side but i dont think we'll ever see Johnson put in dazzling displays. Im sure Liverpool would spend £20m on him so we can spend that on a replacement who is quick, has got skill and can cross.

The team requires more than the first team and so along with a strong squad we need players who are prepared to play irregularly and can still contribute.

When people comment we should sell AJ, Kolarov, Dzeko etc I wonder who they think will be happy to sign and not play regularly as replacements.

There are plenty of players out there who are good enough to be squad players for us. I'd personally like us to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson as a back up midfielder but doubt we will, also Marvin Martin who has had a great season at Socheaux who is set to sign for Lille for £10m would have been another great option. Its not great to be replacing players every season but if its needed then we have to do it to compete in all the competitions.

I agree, he'll never be the best in the world but thats not what we need, unless someone is offering a good amount of cash for him I'm perfectly happy to keep him. Though I am lead to believe selling him would be harder than it sounds as we are very low on our homegrown quota and selling him might screw that up for us.
