Adam Johnson guilty - 6 year sentence

Morals are subjective, to be effective the law has to be objective and clearly define what is allowed and what isn't allowed.

Of course it does but, for me, the law clearly isn't a guide to moral excellence. a 50 year old with a 16 year old is okay but a 19 year old with a 15 year old isn't?

I'm not saying that there is a legal grey area.

So what are you saying? That fancying a 15 year old girl and then grooming her to have sex with even though he knew she was under the LEGAL age is a grey area? Because if that's what you are saying, then you are defending him. If you are defending him then it's fair to say that you agree with him. And if you agree with him what does that make you?

I think you'll find that most countries in
Europe that have a low age of consent they also have a closeness of age difference. So he would still be guilty in most of Europe.

Irrespective of what the law says, i prefer to judge people on the half-your-age-plus-seven rule. That still makes him a total creep-job.

Love that fallacy on your end. I'm not defending him, just not condemning him. There's a difference. My point is that if something is clearly morally up in the air, then really it is hard for us to claim that he is a morally bad person.

MEN also reporting it as "Former City player..." and showing him in a City kit. Trinity Mirror being shits as usual.

I would fully expect the evening news to all him a former City player - are they supposed to deny he was? Hate the paper mind.

Is this the really important bit of this story? A man has used his advantageous position to take sexual favours from an underage girl (I'm only using the English definition of underage here) and people are worried about what shirt he's wearing on tv. Some perspective is needed with this one.

Exactly - drama queens - no one at Sky has said oh lets find him in City kit and slander them. Not a chance.

Is he a real life Jason Bent?

He comes across as thick as fuck in the court reports.

Only in my head? What do you think people in other countries would make of it? It's allowed in other countries so clearly there is moral ambiguity around the issue.
You're right. It's an arbitrary cut-off point and other countries and cultures see things differently. So there's no global or even pan-European consensus on an appropriate age of consent. But 16 is the cut-off point in the law here. That's all that matters.

There's moral ambiguity about speed limits, drink-driving limits, drug taking and all sorts of other things. But that's not relevant, particularly when you're well aware you're breaking the law in the country you're in.

This is where the law in a lot of Europe is better than ours. Although they have a lower age of consent, they also have an age gap clause of 2 to 3 years until they turn 18. So whereas here a 50 year old man could have sex with a 16 year old it would illegal in many countries that have lower age of consent.
