Chances are he will know a lot of 15/16 year olds that would be ermm, fairly grown up should we say and as he's close to their age he won't be able to view it from the eyes of an older bloke.Fair do's. I think he's protesting too much about morals though...
We know he's a bit of a wrong un. I'm sure itsrising will feel the same given 15 years and a different perspective.
Out of interest as I wasn't really aware at the time, how did the world react to the whole Roman Polanksi being a fan of the younger woman way back when?

Whilst there are varying opinions in this thread as to the label Adam Johnson should be awarded, one thing appears to be in agreement.
He is very much in the wrong.
Grooming and sexual activity....this is what he has pleaded guilty to.
Obviously, totally serious matters, and I hope he gets whatever it is that is coming to him.
A more minor note, is that he lied his ass off to my club, and fellow fans, insisting he was innocent....to such a degree, that he was unsuspended...
Innocent until proven guilty and all that.
So on day 1 of his court case, he admits his guilt...a total about turn.
Please Sunderland...do the correct thing...sack this prick...and distance us from him asap

Thanks Balo. If that's the legal stance then legally he isn't. However to me a kid is a kid. 5 or 15. He is no better than a paedophile. When he is mixing it with them in jail. I hope to hell he feels like one of them.Right, this is a bit pedantic, but fuck it.

2 counts of sexual activity with a child. Trial starts on Friday.
Maximum tariff for grooming is 10 years.

he's pleaded guilty, career probably now over and I have no sympathy for him. what annoys me is the media saying " former Manchester city player " instead of sunderland player, he has had nothing to do with our club for several years and he was a sunderland player when he committed the offences. i'd hate to think of the shit we would get from the media if he was still with us.

Sentencing guidelines will depend on which of the three categories it falls into. Sounds like Category 2 at the moment and, if he's admitted grooming, then that's the more serious level, showing high culpability. It's that's the case, the starting point is 3 years but there may be aggravating/mitigating factors. The range is 2-6 years.
If it's the less serious level of Category 2 or even Category 3, it could be anything from a Community Order to 3 years.
