Adam Johnson guilty - 6 year sentence

Out of interest as I wasn't really aware at the time, how did the world react to the whole Roman Polanksi being a fan of the younger woman way back when?
It was definitely more acceptable back then, and I suspect that if drugging wasn't involved, we wouldn't have heard much about the Polanski incident. His mistake was attempting to force it, but simply having sex with an underage girl back then was seemingly not controversial. Elvis dated a 14 year old when he was in his 20s. Bill Wyman was another one who was 47 when he started dating a 13 year-old. In the recent glut of stories around David Bowie's death, there was one entitled "I lost my virginity to David Bowie" in which the woman describes how her and a friend had sex with him when they were both 14, and in fact, her friend was known as a bit of a groupie to famous musicians, who would give them drugs and alcohol before inviting them up to their hotel rooms. It's just as predatory as what Adam Johnson is accused of, arguably more so. I think a lot of them got away with it because the girls involved wanted it too, so there were no complaints, and indeed, Adam Johnson probably would have in the pre-digital age, if her father hadn't have found out.

Anyone can understand a couple of 15 year old kids going at it. That's been happening in schools since schools have existed. I can even understand an 18 year old and a 15 year old. But when a guy hits 20 or so, he shouldn't be looking for girls that age.

A 28 year old man with a 15 year old is disgusting.

Adam Johnson is a millionaire. He:
  1. Cheated on his *very* good looking wife
  2. Ignored all the willing 22 year olds that would've died for a chance to be with him
  3. Pursues a teenager while knowing she was 15
Get real guys. Even 20 year old guys swerve 15 year old girls. Hard. Simply don't want anyone younger than 17. Too immature. Johnson knowing she was 15 and still pursuing makes him a paedophile in my book. It doesn't matter how she looks, how many curves she has. When you find out she's 15, you back off. Immediately.

Nope. Not even buy a long shot. itsrising might be on a wind up. I'll try one more time before I start name calling...

It is totally justifiable to punish a man who knowingly groomed an under aged girl for sex if that is the law of the country where it happened. Forget the other parts of the world that have different laws and morals as they don't apply here. At all.

This countries laws and morals apply. He knew the legal age. He went ahead.

That wasn't my point. It seems it going over peoples heads. When highlighting the man that got sentenced for drinking beers in Saudi, I was questioning the principle behind the idea that acting unlawful despite knowing the law of the land makes you an immoral person and/or you deserve punishment.

We can't sit here and act like our neigbouring countries have a weird grasp on morality that we oh so mighty Brits have figured out. Truth is, who knows what the age a girl is a woman and can make her decisions. It differs in countries because ages from 15 to 18 are all justifiable. We know that he acting unlawfully but my point is that to say he is immoral for doing so in this specific example is rather ridiculous and a leap from illegal to immoral which isn't nearly always the case and, therefore, I can't morally condemn him because the issue is morally ambigious.
