Adam Johnson guilty - 6 year sentence

It was definitely more acceptable back then, and I suspect that if drugging wasn't involved, we wouldn't have heard much about the Polanski incident. His mistake was attempting to force it, but simply having sex with an underage girl back then was seemingly not controversial. Elvis dated a 14 year old when he was in his 20s. Bill Wyman was another one who was 47 when he started dating a 13 year-old. In the recent glut of stories around David Bowie's death, there was one entitled "I lost my virginity to David Bowie" in which the woman describes how her and a friend had sex with him when they were both 14, and in fact, her friend was known as a bit of a groupie to famous musicians, who would give them drugs and alcohol before inviting them up to their hotel rooms. It's just as predatory as what Adam Johnson is accused of, arguably more so. I think a lot of them got away with it because the girls involved wanted it too, so there were no complaints, and indeed, Adam Johnson probably would have in the pre-digital age, if her father hadn't have found out.
Cheers for that. It does seem it was a different world. You see the lyrics of so many songs of the time and they make your toes curl now.

But their legal code is based on religious teaching so, by definition, it's immoral in their eyes.

Yes, but does that mean it is universally immoral? I'm pretty sure there was plenty of outrage despite the guy simply for not following the law of the land.

That's the end of Adam Johnson's football career, then. Unless Block 'C' has a team, of course.

He's an idiot and deserves all he gets. I have absolutely no sympathy for him.

This may have been covered but any grown-up who likes shagging children is immoral - I don't care about th legalities in some tinpot village somwhere

I doubt this sudden change of plea is a result of him trying to do the decent thing. His lawyer would have advised him on the best course of action right from the start. He's probably been professing his innocence for as long as possible so he keeps getting paid off Sunderland. Now he's confessed they are probably within their rights to cancel his contract. It all sounds very calculating.
