Adam Wharton

He’s a decent player, good on the ball and has lots of potential but he’s not what we need imo.

The game is changing and we are desperately missing a combative midfielder. Rodri may never reach full strength again and even if he does, let’s not pretend like he can’t co exist with Nico and someone else.

Even with Rodri fit, we're still short an 8. Kova and Bernardo are leaving in the summer so we might as well go for two.
If we are going to spend that much on a new midfield then we are better looking elsewhere. If we are after cover look for cheaper alternatives

Cheaper alternatives is how we've wound up in this mess to begin with. Had we actually gone into the market with purpose instead of bringing back Gundo and getting Kovacic, we might not have the current issues with the midfield. We're paying extra now because it's become absolutely apparent that we are in desperate need of midfielders who can put tackles in and pass accurately.

Along with overpaying for average talent. Got to do better than tread water signings.

I would also love to bring in Wharton with Anderson tbh, they both balance each other well.

Wharton is a very elite vertical passer, whereas Anderson is an elite press resistant controller of the ball.

I think nico is good enough that we dont need both, of the 2 I'd go for Anderson hes more all rounded

Would take either

Not seen enough of Wharton in a team that dominate the ball possession then has to defend in the transition! I’ve seen enough of Anderson to see that he reads the game early wins the ball quickly back to goal with the ball he is very good I’ve not seen Wharton back to goal holding players of take two touches then pass! Wharton first time passing from deep though it’s the best I’ve seen!

I’d love both but that will be around 140m that’s if Anderson has that buyout of around 60m

He’s brilliant. He scans constantly, great passing range and vision, always has time on the ball and he’s only 21.

Also, to add, I think that Wharton is exactly the type of player to go up a gear under Pep. He’s all about ticking over but with quick transitions into intricate line breaking passes. Think he would turn into a worldie under our boss.

How many seasons would he have under pep though, sadly can’t see him being around much longer

Nico Gonzalez bud
I assumed you meant O Reilly because Nico G is already playing midfield for us.

Currently the options for our 2 deeper midfielders are Rodri, Nico G, Bernie and Kova.

I think it's good to have 4 options for 2 spots, even though 2 are currently injured.

So if Bernie and Kova are out, then Anderson and Wharton coming in makes good strong depth. Combined with the unknown of Rodris new level and injury, it makes sense to me.

If one of those 2 stay because I am just assuming both leave, then bringing in only 1 more is fine, and the priority has to be Anderson who is both a 6/8 while Wharton is more an 8.

He's the closest England have to a Toni Kroos. I think he's excellent and has scope to improve, especially off the ball.

It's mad that England not long ago had a real problem in the middle of the park, meaning we even tried Alexander-Arnold in midfield at the last Euros. Now we have Anderson and Wharton battling for a place alongside either Rice or Bellingham as the 8, and then you have a ridiculous amount of options as the attacking midfielder or 10 in Foden, Palmer, Rogers and Eze etc.
