Adebayor/Barca and Robbie

Agree 100% with what your saying but if what Robbie is qouted as saying is true then he DID indicate he wants to join Barca. So I fail to see the similarities?

All Robbie said was a very long winded 'thanks but no thanks' to be honest.

He isn't likely to burn his bridges with the biggest club in Europe to be fair to him and all he really said was how flattering it was and how great Barca are. Both seem like pretty truthful statements.

Of course I'd have loved him to say 'Nah fuck off, I'm City Til I Die now' but that was never going to happen in the real world. Robbie is only young and one of the elite stars of world football, he knows better than to burn his bridges with the likes of Barca just in case and I think that's fair enough.

If his previous is anything to go by if he wanted out and to go to Barca we would know about it!

Man, sometimes you hit the nail on the head so well it makes me want to hug you...not in a gay way though...

....not that there's anything wrong with being gay....x.

Hug me all you like, we'd both enjoy it in a very straight and natural way :)

Great post. All Robbie has said is that he's flattered to be linked with such an illustrious club; who wouldn't? You must be doing something right if the Champions League winners are supposedly after you. It will galvanise him I think, only if the boo-boys looking for a new scapegoat shut up.

Agree 100%.

But I think that some of it is down to what I call the "ugly girlfriend" syndrome.

In other words, some of us still can't accept that a player of Robinho's standing and quality would actually like playing for us,ikkle old ciddy.

It's a mindset issue-"we don't deserve to be able to compete for players with the mighty Barca."

We have to change this.We are now one of the most pro-active clubs in the world and any decent player would have to consider us before signing for anyone else.

But to be fair to them,Catalan does indeed sound better than Cadishead...:-)

Good post mate.

I agree re the 'ugly girlfriend' thing in fact I think at one point last season I compared us having Robinho to John Merrick pulling Marilyn Monroe. Perhaps a tad harsh on City, who knows?

This season it's more like Johnny Deep and Marilyn Monroe though, much more balanced but with a touch of necrophilia!

Well youve convinced me!

Turing on your own players is just plain stupid.

If Robinho wants to go to Barca fair play cant really blame him as long as he gives his all until that day.

Problem is it seems like a long time since he had a good game for us. On current form I honestly believe Petrov or Bellamy are a better option for the team on that left hand side.

TMQ that's a great post, with a rousing little call to arms, and you clearly have the club's best intentions at heart.

But I can't help but feel you're looking for positives that aren't there, your interpretation of Robinho's comments baffle me.

As far as I know Robinho's comments regarding Barca were made in a different interview to any discussing us, so the regular argument that eveyone clings to that his comments were "taken out of context" doesn't hold water and just makes myself and others prefectly justified when they shat themselves with fear upon reading those quotes.

This was my reply on another thread regarding the same subject;

I was absolutely gutted when I read those quotes.

We all know Robinho deserves Champions League football, a player of his calibre should be playing at the highest level... but I thought (or hoped) that when the time came both parties could just go their separate ways, in a respectable fashion, but these quotes leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

It's tantamount to watching your girlfriend raise her skirt to a group of lads and hurl the tell tale sultry "come and get me" smile in their direction.

It hurts. It really does - and I'm not afraid to admit it.

I find it hard to read about our most talented player giving another club the "come on", flirting away while he still wears the our sky blue. It has echoes of the Ronaldo to Madrid saga, and to be perfectly honest I don't think I could take that.

Those quotes are obviously new, since he mentions playing alongside Ibrahimovic, I just hope when he does eventually leave it's not under bad terms and we can look back upon his time at City with fond memories.

Unfortunately that's how I see it, and if you're perfectly honest TMQ I'm sure that under that facade of yours you're just as worried as I am.

Also incredibly ironic that Ade should reveal all of this towards the end of a week in which we've read some 'people' on here questioning Robinho due to the fact that.....Barca have been linked with him!

Now that is incredibly selective, the two cases aren't even comparable. No one is questioning Robinho due to being linked with Barca, people began questioning Robihno when he made his recent comments to the press... the comments which echoed Ronaldo's comments re Real Madrid - and you know that.

To compare the Adebayor / Barcelona saga to the current coming saga with Robinho doesn't hold water, Adebayor never commented as explicitly as Robinho on Barca, Robinho's comments are as good as a "come and get me" plea.

Those comments hurt, and I'm man enough to admit it. I'll be devastated when Robinho leaves, but I won't close my eyes and hum Bluemoon trying to convince myself and anyone who'll listen to me that it'll never happen - because it eventually will... whether it's Barca or not.

I'll be behind Robinho until the day he leaves the club, I just want to remember his time at the club with a series of fond memories - the beautiful and spectacular football that captures your imagination, the like of which only a handful of players are capable of producing. We're so lucky to have a player of his talent within our squad, and like yourself it really frustrates me when people take him for granted... we should appreciate him and his football, when he eventually leaves those who didn't will regret it until the day they're rotting in a box.

Some people don't seem to realise how lucky they are.

The old adage of "you don't know what you've got until it's gone" couldn't be more true is this case.

With all that said he isn't exempt from criticism, and I believe he let us down to a certain extent when he made those "flirtatious" comments.

Just please don't tell me I've no right to be worried TMQ - because underneath the Churchill-esque speeches I'm sure you are too.

I'm probably more insecure regarding Robinho's presence at the club than most mate. Since being a kid I've seen my favourite players leave routinely and it's hard for me to accept that maybe Robinho will stay for the long haul BUT I do stand by my interpretation of his comments regarding Barcelona.

I think that come the end of the season if we aren't top 4 then Rob will look to move. This worries me in so much that losing Rob would be a blow to the entire squad and the morale but maybe, just maybe, we will make the top 4.

I'm not telling you not to worry, rather I'm telling you not to worry too much! He didn't say anything about Barca we don't know and to continue the girlfriend analogy, it's kinda like knowing she'd love a night with Brad Pitt but you don't think about it too much or you'd go mental. I'm sure Rob knows we'd all love Messi at the club which is a bit like your missus knowing what you're thinking when you're watching Girls Aloud on TV but blocking it from her mind!

Touche!

But there's a difference between fantasising about a night with Brad Pitt to actively seeking a night with him - isn't there?

I hope I'm wrong, I just hoped that Robinho wouldn't go down the Ronaldo route to find himself a move from the club.

With that said, most of us expected that it'd be a short stay - a shooting star so to speak, short and sweet.

I do however agree with you that where we finish these season is pivotal in our hopes of keeping Robbie - lets just hope it all goes well this season!

Fingers crossed.
