Adebayor for me was very poor

I thought it was a very good point to be honest. If a player who has cost a lot of money doesn't even want to play for us then that is worse than a player trying his best for us, even if for some people that best doesn't appear to be good enough. You never know, if Robinho had got his head down and tried to get back in the team rather than fucking off at the first sign of trouble then maybe he could have made the difference last night. That is why he is a better target for abuse than a player who has scored quite a few goals for us and at the start of the season was one of the main reasons for winning us quite a lot of points.

Agree with you about Robinho, didnt mean to seem like I was defending him, just think they are other people to blame ...David Brightwell for example ;-))

Adebayor is a top quality striker.

The problem is, we have two central midfielders who offer nothing going forwards and we have two wingers who can only come inside. These two wingers can be well marshalled by the opposing full backs, and the midfielders never break into the opposing penalty area.

We have two full backs who offer nothing going forwards, so this basically leaves us with 4 attacking players, two who are well looked after, and two (Tevez and Ade) who have to drop deep time and time again just to get anything started. When this fails, we launch a long ball to him.

The main problem lies with the fact that we have no variety whatsoever, because the players in the full back positions and both central midfield positions, are very limited technically and/or athletically.

Adebayor is one of the best strikers in the league and his goal record in the PL certainly backs that up. The fact that him and Tevez have scored so many goals between them suggest that it's the rest of the pitch that's the worry.

This thread suggests that around 80% of the posters on here are complete doylems.

A pedestrian, one dimensional midfield is the issue. NDJ.. great when the opposition mis control the ball or play a loose pass... totally ineffective when we have the ball. And totally ineffective if the opposition keep the ball... he is very effective at winning 'winnable' tackles!

It is obvious that mancini also realises the midfield needs overhauling. Thats why he desperately wanted Mariga & Gago last january!

Agreed. Swap Crouch and Ade round tonight and I think we'd have nicked it

Totally disagree... we would have had the same problem! We didn't get the final ball right. Too many crosses were cleared by the 'first' defender.. how many crosses did we get into the box? Crouch would have been just as frustrated as Ade last night if the roles were reversed.

But half the time Ade wasnt even in the box, he was too busy p*ssing about on the wings! Crouch held the ball up well, won everything in the air, had a great touch....everything Ade didnt offer. I'm not disagreeing that our final ball into the box was poor (although there were a couple of corners that were excellent and Toure should have done better with his free headers) but Crouch was always available, created space for Defoe to run into and gave our defenders the run around - something Ade didnt do last night

Crouch's goal........would Ade have been in the box to rebound the header in if that had been a City chance?

Probably. Crouch has scored 8 goals in as many starts as Ade this year who has slotted 14. Please dont compare the two, they are a different class.

To finish 5th with the midfield, or more to the point, the midfield options we have is a truly staggering achievement. A collection of players who all do a bit of a midfielders job but none of them capable of doing a complete job in the middle of the park.

I suspect our midfield will be unrecognisable come the start of next season.

Personally I hope so. I imagine that we will stop with the 442 once we have an attacking midfielder worthy of the name.

4312 will be the formation. Full backs who are athletic and can cross will be the order of the day to provide width. de Jong could play the defensive midfield. Then either side of him two much more all round mobile players. In front of them a play maker. I have a feeling that Adam Johnson could play much more centrally next year.

He is not a target man in my opinion. He suits Arsenal's style perfectly. I think Gleghorn said it on the radio. Give him the ball into feet and let him have a go at defenders or lay it off for someone else. In the air he's not the best, especially from long balls.

He has a brilliant finish, great feet and lots of strength. I don't think we can judge the fact he's a poor player simply because he can't win the ball from a goal kick. He's scored 15 goals in a season which, in the middle, he had a very traumatic experience. It's short little passes he's good with. No need to sell him just play to his strengths.

He doesnt suit our style perfectly at all. There's a reason why most arsenal fans were happy he was gone, not only is he lazy, but he ruined our flow. Bendtner will become a much better player, and he has 10X more heart. I said after 3 weeks, wait to the end of the season and majority of you will want him gone.

And whilst I thought that Crouch was brilliant, he - unlike Ade - was served by a Tottenham team that understood and played to his strengths.

We've seen in previous years how Darren Huckerby, Nicolas Anelka both suffered from midfielders who couldn't ping a well timed defence splitting pass and alternatively how brilliant they could be with an Ali B/Eyal B on the pitch. This has to be a priority summer signing.
