When you say 'I have seen' though, what do you actually mean? You mean 'seen' in real life, or 'seen' on social media? Because we've all seen those videos where they get some woman on a street interview saying that she'll only consider a guy with the three sixes: six foot, six figures and six inches. But most of us recognise that like those 'all Americans are thick' videos, only the most egregious examples are going to get shown to you, either because the creator only shares the ones designed to wind you up, or the algorithm shows you the ones that get most traction, which is always the most extreme examples. But, it's not BS. It's roughly correct. I expect backlash with the following notes.
The blame is social media. Without social media and the push to promote beyond wealthy and 6ft 2+ males, women's average goals would remain 'normal' in the West. I have seen, time and again, women 5ft to 5ft 5 reject 6ft men as being "too short", so what happens to an average height, working class man?
I don't disagree that social media has skewed people's perspectives and expectations though. The classic for me is how everyone in America seems to think that a six-figure salary is about average, when in reality, it's under $70k, and that by definition includes all the sixty-year-olds in senior management positions, with the average for a man in their 20s being something in the 40s. But let's not pretend this isn't true of men too. Let's not pretend these '80% of women' types are interested in a 5/10. They're just as likely to be only interested in the 'top 20%' of women too, even though they aren't in that bracket themselves. The problem with everything nowadays is that everyone is constantly presented with this idea that the 'top 20%' of everything (and let's be honest, we're actually talking about the top 1-2% in reality) is attainable for them when for the most part it isn't. In the past, an average looking, not particularly sociable, not particularly affluent guy would be happy with a 'nice girl,' now they're dissatisfied if they don't end up with a model, just like girls are told they can expect 6ft with a 6 figure salary.
