did he do it though? It says earlier on that he changed his clothes. I think his mate did it wearing his clothes.His son was so insistent that he did nothing.

Can’t answer that properly as it’s a spoiler.
I think what you allude to is wrong however.
I can see the significance of the phone call from the son.
I work in the courts here and have seen similar happen.

Thought the acting by Stephen Graham in the 4th episode was up there with some of his best in his career

I know it's TV but that final scene where he is absolutely broken hearted actually really got to me, first thing I said to my Mrs was as soon as ours are old enough to need to use PC/laptop at home they sit and do it with an open door or even better sat with us.

My missus said this series should be shown in schools to show the sorrow and heartache of the parents after events like these that children can put them through

Let's just say the age of innocence is very short-lived, and more so the lower down the social spectrum you go. It always has been, and it always will be.

It's one of those times that we don't understand until it's too late.

I know this belongs in the TV thread but i feel its worthy of its own thread and the bigger meaning for society to deal with the masculinity problem young children are being fed.

It is one the most powerful, heartbreaking TV shows i have ever seen - the acting is beyond anything and the way it's filmed (one continuous) shot is done superbly.

Made me give my kids a big hug this morning. A must watch for everyone, especially parents of young children.

Growing up we had magazines and pressure on girls which created an identity crisis for them. It's happening to lads now.

They need positive male models to help them set boundaries. Sadly some of these lads are lost because of the immaturity of their fathers and mothers who've used them as weapons for more maintenance payments. But that's another societal debate.

It's a worrying uptrend.

The acting and the way it’s filmed is done amazing , it’s just a really powerful series. After first episode you will give up worrying if it’s good or not.

But the single take format basically placed you in the action. It was very clever.

It was OK. Some highlights (the kid especially), but found it meandering and trying to address far too many issues without really addressing any.

I thought it was great. But as I mentioned in the TV thread, I thought the accents were all over the place if it was supposedly set in Liverpool or the north west.

A lot of the kids at the school sounded like they were from down south. Lead detective was a cockney. How common is that up here? Just lost a bit of realism for me.

Probably a bit petty. But you couldn't see Stephen Graham playing Al Capone with a scouse accent.
