Afghanistan

Screams to me they are all saying.

"It's your fucking mess you clean it up"

I really wish we werent the Americans lapdog. I hate getting involved in the Americans love for war and poking their noses into every other countries problems. Americans should get their own country sorted first as Americans seem to enjoy killing each other with their guns.

They are torturing and killing every one who has worked with the allied forces , today a police chief , going house to house trying to find people ,so much for no action against people who helped the west , utter cunts, wtf was trump even thinking

that is not about now , even so they are flocking to the nearest countries which is understandable

Refugees will always seek harbour in the nearest country, Pakistan, Turkey, Greece all have millions of refugees from different conflicts.

Raab desperately trying to hang on - I have seen on line reports that the holiday he was on cost £40k. If so thats interesting given that his salary is £81k pa. Expensive 7 days break in more ways than one.

that number rescued is much lower than it should be and what others were saying on record yesterday and today , who to believe ....

Militants have killed the relative of a Deutsche Welle reporter and severely injured another, the German public broadcaster said.

Afghan journalists have reported being beaten and having their homes raided since the Taliban seized power in Kabul on Sunday.

The militants had initially promised they would allow free media and jobs for women – banned when the Taliban was last in power from 1996 to 2001 – in a news conference on Tuesday.

Deutsche Welle (DW) said the Taliban has been conducting door-to-door searches to find the journalist who is now working in Germany.

Other relatives were able to flee and are in hiding, according to the broadcaster.

"The killing of a close relative of one of our editors by the Taliban ... is inconceivably tragic, and testifies to the acute danger in which all our employees and their families in Afghanistan find themselves," DW director general Peter Limbourg said.

"It is evident that the Taliban are already carrying out organised searches for journalists, both in Kabul and in the provinces. We are running out of time!"

The whole of Government has been working tirelessly over the last week to help as many people evacuate from Afghanistan as possible.

Wow....they've been working on this for a whole week?

The withdrawal agreement was signed by Trump in February 2020. 18 months ago.

This is the entire problem with Raab and his response. He's acting like this was an unforseeable event that needed rapid reaction and everything happened so quickly that no one can be blamed for stuff falling through the cracks.

Everyone in the world knew the week this was happening. How fucking hard is it as Foreign Secretary to not book your holiday on the the biggest pre-planned foreign policy event of the last 15 years?

We have lists of everyone who helped us over there, and everyone who put their neck on the line because we promised them the Taliban wouldn't come back. The charities and NGOs have those lists even if the government doesn't. The Taliban certainly had them FFS.

12 months ago that list should have been compiled.
6 months ago the locations they're going to should have been worked out and prepped.
3 months ago we should have told them to get ready,
and 1 month ago they should have been out of the country before Kabul fell.

They was saying on the radio yesterday that they taliban issue 3 statements, one in English, one in Afghan and one in (I forget, Punjab maybe? as they have a lot of Pakistani fighters in their midst). Anyroads they said that all 3 said something different to appeal to those whose language it was. They told us what they thought we wanted to hear, can’t trust them as far as I can throw them

Everyone knew what? That the Afghan government would collapse in days? I don’t think that was the play book as understood by governments or military leaders around the world. I certainly didn’t think it would. Although I’m sure you can point me to your posts where you’ve been extolling the government to act and plan for this over those past 12 months…I’ll wait.

Probably exactly why it was booked for then.

It does seem that the plan is to try avoiding the issue by note referring to it.

There was someone on a paper review last night who pointed out what I thought about Wallace's dismissal that the phonecall wouldn't have made a difference.
Misdirection from the actual non-action to a hypothetical - It might wall have had no benefit, but not making the call absolutely guaranteed that there would be no benefit.

Theres so much bullshit in this post.

Yes. Everyone knew the Afghan government would lose quickly. Everyone knew that without US Air support they had no hope of winning, it was widely known (and reported) that there had been thousands of desertions since the Trump peace declaration and release of the 5000 Taliban prisoners back into Afghanistan. Biden says they were surprised how quickly, but they're talking about it taking days not weeks.

The deals, initially offered early last year, were often described by Afghan officials as cease-fires, but Taliban leaders were in fact offering money in exchange for government forces to hand over their weapons, according to an Afghan officer and a U.S. official.
Over the next year and a half, the meetings advanced to the district level and then rapidly on to provincial capitals, culminating in a breathtaking series of negotiated surrenders by government forces, according to interviews with more than a dozen Afghan officers, police, special operations troops and other soldiers.

The coalition military intelligence knew about these deals.

If the New York Times can know that, the foreign Secretary certainly knows it.

If there was a plan for evacuating our Afghan allies it could have been sped up. It could have been rolled out at short notice. There's been nothing, there still is nothing, and no one can get the foreign secretary on the phone to organise it.

As for the most dishonest "what were you doing" bullshit, its not my fucking job to overseas the British withdrawal from Afghanistan with 2 years notice. Plenty of people were telling them these things though, we have heard from dozens of NGO workers who have said they've been trying to organise the government for months with no help or progress.

It was Dominic Raabs job, and the thousands of people who work under him, and they have comprehensively failed that job and brought shame on this country, and shown the entire world that we cannot be trusted to stick by our allies and that will stick with us for decades.

Love the fact that the usual suspects are having a mega pop at our government...
When we could do fuck all in the great scheme of things
And not looking at Trump's cave in and Biden's approval and acceleration of the pull out.
Staggering. Just staggering.

It is in this thread and their actual threads , we had time , the deal was signed eighteen months ago, leaving it till the last minute was stupid as is not taking a panic phone call last week, we have always known the forces we trained were cowards and wouldnt resist
