Afghanistan

Sadly one aspect that will get little coverage or if it does will be a side article is the use of contractors especially military private firms to look after some operations.

Once it isn't worth their while why would they have stayed to carry on working with the Afghan army.

Seems an insult to those from many nations globally that have sacrified themselves to have 20 yrs reversed in a day.
Also the contractors based in different parts of the world supporting intelligence gathering, drone strikes etc

Yep. We have also just signed a £5bn deal to sell arms to Saudi, despite the crisis in Yemen. We never learn because we put profit before humanity and that is the bottom line.
The crisis in Yemen is totally different. Iran is supporting and supplying Yemini rebels. The Saudis are supporting the Yemen as they like us fear Iran.

You do know that Biden accelerated the withdrawal?
It's like ripping off a plaster. I'ts always going to hurt, but it needs to be done.

If the ANA weren't ready to fill the void after 20 years of training and billions of dollars worth of investment (including equipment), let's face it they were never going to be ready.

You do know that Biden accelerated the withdrawal?

And? The US signed a deal with the Taliban committing to withdraw from Afghanistan by May of this year. Trump released 5,000 Afghan prisoners, some of whom will now be in the Govt. The chance of Biden reversing any of this was zero given Biden opposed the build up of troops when VP.

The fall of Saigon happened under President Ford, you reckon Ford was solely responsible for it happening or does Ford share the collective blame with the US establishment and military for the previous decade or so?

What we are reacting to is the speed of this happening, but the speed shows just how non-existent the US supported Govt was. The US created a fiction of a Govt and an army of 300k that melted as if it never existed.

As long as the Taliban keep within its borders, the West will not give a toss and the Taliban know it.

Quite the stretch.
Not really. The Cathars lived a peaceful life in what is now south Western France happily practicing their religious beliefs bothering no one. The pope told the king of France that this was wrong and to sort it. He sent his armies and slaughtered them. I doubt the missionaries went into Africa with just rosary beads and a cross

Puppet governments and enforced democracies never work so what is happening now was inevitable.

The corrupt and incompetent kabul government never really enjoyed public support and it has been proven by how easily they got dismantled. Forget the public, their own army refused to fight for them.

Whatever one thinks of trump, at least he had the courage to end this never ending conflict by signing the deal, neither trump nor biden is to be blamed for the pictures coming out now, it was gonna happen even if they withdrew five years from now.

You think Trump was being courageous when he surrendered to the Taliban?
Wow.

Any possibility of a different outcome was removed when Trump unilaterally decided to come to an agreement with the Taliban without the involvement of the Afghan government which meant the Taliban didn't have to make any concessions.

Everything since then was inevitable.

I don't understand though why you felt the need to contribute "all religion is the same", when you hear a Taliban militant express ambitions of conquering the world and forcing everyone to live their way of life?

He said that yesterday. You've drawn up an 800 year old comparison, for what purpose?

I'm not sure if you've noticed but the world's biggest problem at present as far as religious fundamentalism goes is Islamism. That Taliban militant is emblematic of that.

NATO spent 20 years trying to suppress these barbarians and they've just routed the entire army NATO built in a matter of weeks. Them and their ilk are a pretty big problem, today.

They also took their position with them too.

The words courage and Trump should never be deployed in conjunction with each other. He is a coward and a bully. Signing a piece of paper doesn’t make you brave.

What different outcome was possible if trump didn't sign the deal? Taliban controlled more than 50% of the territory, some say it was 60 to 70%, the afghan government was going no where in terms of progress or control of the country, US and Nato weren't gaining anything as Taliban were getting stronger and stronger, so what different outcome was possible? Trump realised that this war is nothing but a waste of tax payer's money and took the courageous decision to end it rather than trying to win it like Us tried to do under Bush and Obama or how Soviets and British thought they could do it when they tried to conquer Afghanistan

To put your ego aside and cutting the losses for your country in a conflict that you can't win is courageous. Us and Nato didn't lose the war after signing the deal, it was already lost prior to it.
