You get what you pay for I suppose but does anybody have recommendations for decent portable air con units? Not air coolers as they are a different beast and usually that means filling with water and ice packs, can't be arsed with that. Fairly quiet and easy on the lekky. Was looking at a Midea model but that is north of £400!

In my old house I had a portable air con unit but I had to knock through the outside wall for the concertinaed pipe work .
The pipe to the outside wall used to get hot and the water had to be emptied daily.
In my current house I have 4 Mitsubishi wall mounted units and they have been the best investment ever in this weather.
Inside they are very quiet but not too sure how loud the outside units are so could be a problem for someone with a close neighbour.
They can get the rooms down to icy cold within about 10 minutes. They were about £1300 each but worth every penny as I get a good nights sleep In this hot weather.

Not really needed in this country imo.

- Shut windows and curtains in the day and drink cold water from the fridge.
- Open windows and curtains when it cools down at night and use a fan if necessary.

I am seeing quite a few people get them installed. And a few older people who are asking for the council to install them.

summers are getting hotter it seems and the stats and reports back that up. I think we might see more and more of the4se being installed.

Saw the thread title and thought it was some young South American footballer we were interested in

Who wants to sit with the curtains closed in the day time, it will feel as though someone’s died.
Windows open at night , security issues particularly for those like me who live in a bungalow and you can also hear outside noises whilst trying to sleep.
Fans are noisy and no way do they filter the air, they just re circulate warm air.
Also your advice doesn’t work for those working shifts
No comparison.

All good points but it's simply not that hot in this country.

We had a couple of absolute scorching weeks last year where air con would've been nice but I don't think you can justify it for 2 weeks a year.

Got Aircon in every room in the house in Thailand, I couldn't justify it for here in the UK though.

Plus the price differential between here and there is enormous.

I use ceiling fans, not the little ones that rattle and wobble all over the place but a Westinghouse with the longer blades.

With the longer blade it only has to be on a low speed so it's silent and feels like a cool sea breeze blowing over you, brilliant for the bedroom and sleeping in the hot weather.
