Alan Ball / Wonderwall song

I was there. A really really nasty atmosphere all game.
Poison.
I actually thought both sets of fans sung " Fuck off Alan Ball, say Fuck off off Alan Ball "...or have I just made that up ?
It started in the away end,but quickly spread to the whole ground.
I quickly scrubbed f'ootball manager ' off my jobs I wanted to do list that day.
The atmosphere was pure evil.
And it didn't get any better at the train station ...
I was saved from a kicking by one of my longest Blue mates from Blackley..

Then....The Manchester train drew into the station ...but I wasn't going to Manchester,I wanted the Derby train...all me mates got on advising me to get on the train..some senior police officer on a horse came up to me on the station said get on the train for your own safety
We cannot guarantee your safety.....stoke were waiting in the background....
I refused.
Point blank..I was so pissed off at how Shit City were. I sat on the platform seat and would not move an inch.loads of Blues hanging out the window ..imploring me to get on their train.....not happening.
One of my best Blue mates then stepped back off the Manchester train
And stayed with me till my train came.
That's Loyalty.
That's following Blues back in the day.( (I had a party to go to sat nite ,no way was I going to Manchester, lol)

But that was a bad bad day.start to finish.end off.
Pure evil.as I remember it.
Amazed how many on here talk about Stoke like it was a really scary trip. In my experience we always gave as good as we got. A couple of times 76 and 81 we totally took the piss out numbering the home support. They were never a problem at Maine Rd, the most scary places back in the day were Leeds ,Boro and Birmingham City. Just my experience realise a lot of people will have different opinions and experiences.

Just to be clear...whatever stokes reputation I always used to to turn up back in the day.The Alan Ball match itself was not scary..it was just an evil atmosphere which I thought I'd explained well in my post.A sense of ...attacking your own team ,by laughing and verbally abusing your own manager.helped on by hatred ofvthecsame person from the home end.
Toxic.not good.

It was scary at the station,I was pissed out me head, and ..sitting on a bench onstation platform when approached by a group of lads who said " City are shit" no colours.i just smirked, and agreed ,thinking they were City fans( we,d lost 4nil that day I think) ....they were stoke, and me in a pissed up haze hadn't seen them coming....I didnt feel good about myself at that precise moment......luckily ,I had back up.

By the time the" get on the train" scenario happened,I was so pissed; and pissed off at us losing ..and being nearly ambushed, and by the attitude of the local police, that I really couldn't give a Fuck if I was the only blue left on that platform........

Never bin bothered about going to stoke and never found it scary...even when we got bricked in the coach car park when we got relegated,I was too pissed up to care.
Stoke do not feature in my scary grounds visted recollections.
Hope that helps.

Sorry was not getting at your post, their have been several on here over the years with bad experiences at Stoke which I have never found a dodgy away game. But I know the guy wrenching feeling you get anywhere when you realise you have been spotted and are out numbered. The joys of following footy in the seventies and eighties. These days yobs are more likely to offer me a seat.
