I don't completely agree, nor completely disagree with Shearer on this one. Should we fail to win the title there are a few people/things that need to carry some of the blame. City quiet clearly have the best starting 11, and the best squad, in the Premiership. We should be winning the league. It is undeniable though that we have, at times, been a little light in the striker department. We've been reliant on 3 strikers throughout the season so far, top sides need more than that. United have got Rooney, Hernandez, Berbatov, Welbeck and, to a lesser extent, Owen. Chelsea have Torres, Drogba, Sturridge, Kalou, Lukaku and for a while Anelka. Spurs have Defoe, Adebayor, Pavlyuchenko and Dos Santos/Kane and then replace Pav with Saha. Arsenal have Van Persie, Gervinho, Chamakh and Park (ok, so 3 of them are shite but they still have 4 options!). Liverpool have Suarez, Carroll, Bellamy and Kuyt. City had to rely on Aguero, Balotelli and Dzeko after Tevez jumped ship. With Ade, Santa Cruz, Nimely and Guidetti all out on loan we didn't have anyone to asist when Tevez went and, should we fail to win the league, Tevez will have to shoulder his portion of the blame.
