He set the path for the likes of Louis Theroux etc, interesting character when he first appeared on the telly.
 
Pompous git but I quite liked Whickers world, gave an insight to the world around us back in the day.

Can I still shout "Show us your Alans" or "Get your Alans off"

Just seen this on the BBC,I was fascinated by his shows as a kid and they made me interested in travel.
The Whicker's Island sketch on Monty Python was hilarious though.
 
Back in the day used to look forward to his programmes .he went to places at the time that us mere mortals could only dream off
