Album Of The Year 2024 - Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown

One I’ve only just listened to this week, came out in October:

The Eggmen Whoooooo! Fuzzy Eggs, Please

IMG_8567.jpeg

If you like a bit of acid psych rock mixed with a bit of punk mixed with a bit of rock‘n’roll mixed with a bit of garage rock, this lot from Neath in Wales are well worth a listen.

Fellow Welsh band, El Goodo, described this as ‘The Greatest Album Of All Time’ on their Instagram, upon release. They didn’t mean it, plus one of El Goodo (Pixie Jones) is in The Eggmen Whoooooo!, but it was a nice plug for a new band and the album is mega!

I'm down to a shortlist of about 15 at the moment, have more overlap in your second list than your first. The one album that I thought I would like this year that didn't do it for me was Kim Gordon - The Collective which reviewed really well but I just couldn't get into it.

Btw - you seem to have left out your Country picks in your lists :-)
Indie/Folk too. Enjoying the latest Johnny Delaware album upon first listen today from the Playlist Review nomination from @RobMCFC. I think Rob will have some support in this one.

Glad you enjoyed it. I’d never heard of him until a few weeks ago and had a listen after reading a review of the album. It’s very good.

Best album I've listened to this year is Forgiveness is Yours by Fat White Family

Other good ones are Woof by Fat Dog, No Name by Jack White and I quite liked Songs of a Lost World by The Cure.
That Cure new release is as advertised. It is making mine. Will check out those others. Still have time...

The good & bad news is I'm now taking albums out of my existing Top 10 list. Hmm, good call for Coatigan to stick with 10 after all. ;-)

Not sure if anyone else has already said it, but Magdelena Bay - Imaginal Disk is the answer

Here we are, and the big winner is Beth Gibbons. Followed by Waxahatchee, who drew the highest number of votes. From a total of 82 albums put forward.

I have to admit, not listened to either of the top two, so will finish the year off with that.

I included albums PM'd to me, and also went through the thread and included any post that listed more than one album, even when two were put up. Where someone simply said 'this is the best album of the year' I took that as part of wider conversation, although most of those did PM or post a wee list as well.

No reason for people not to discuss their and other albums further however.

Full list below.
