Alcohol, hints, tips, advice etc.

Sorry. I didn't mean to make out that people can carry on drinking until they get as bad as i was... Seriously, it's a nightmare before it even gets to that stage....and it's so hard to stop sliding down that slope to that stage. My advice is to always see your doctor if you're concerned about your drinking.

I was only messing mate, bad attempt at trying to bring a little levity, what you said made complete sense
It's right, though, mate. People tend to think: "well I'm nowhere near as bad as he got, so I'll carry on and worry about it when i get near that stage". Most people that get anywhere near that stage, don't recover.

No one meant any harm or malice. Sometimes a little joke is a good thing. Sometimes we write things down we are feeling, it just comes out.
No one will judge if it's from the heart, i'm sure.
When I made the post about changing the thread title yesterday, I put cheers at the end, without thinking. I soon went back in and edited it once I realised! Probably not needed, but did it anyway.

haha...cheers! I'll drink to that!

Got to be honest here...my older brother is alcoholic too...he's still drinking and is ill with it...his balance has gone. Yet he still thinks "when I get as bad as Mark was, I'll do something about it".
I should have thought about that first.
ALL alcoholics die form alcohol...unless they quit. Or get hit by a bus on the way to the offy.

Mark do you think your outlook on it all is part of your way of dealing with it? A defence mechanism if you will? You've been through a lot but you seem to have a dry humour about it.
Not in anyway suggesting that's a bad thing, in fact I think the opposite.
Just interested in your take.

Yeah...it's my way of coping. I'm a bit too open as well..haha.
I DO feel like I owe the world one, though. I've applied to do some voluntary work helping other alcoholics...hopefully i can get to do that soon. Scares me bit...but fuck it...if i can help one person with my experience...

Brilliant mate, thanks.
I've met a few recovering addicts who have the same attitude, that's why I asked. It's strange how much we all have in common, and how easy it is to pick up on.
Addiction, denial, hiding it, pushing friends + family away, self pity, realisation, action, relapse, recovery.
All things we share in some form. Our common goal is getting to the recovery stage and sticking with it. If a little dark humour helps i'm all for it.
Thanks for your honesty it's appreciated. I'm willing to bet you've already helped people on here.
Good luck with it all mate
