Alcoholism

I'm 47 and it only takes 2 pints now and I end up with the kind of depressive hangover that have led me to decide that my drinking days are all but over.

I do take the occasional swig of whiskey to relieve stress, I've done this for years and thought it might lead to addiction but so far it hasn't.
Cosmic.

I'd be fucking depressed if all I'd had was two pints.

He's having 2 pints of Sliwowica.

Used to go out 7 nights a week, 6 pints a night (more at weekends). Then again, I was in my teens/20s.

Got married, kids came along, and went out occasionally.

These days, at 64, go out with a mate Tuesday or Wednesday (depends on if there is a match) and have 3 pints. Meal out on Friday, where I may have a pint, plus the odd drink in the house.

When we went to Wembley for the Community Shield, we stayed in Hitchen for a long weekend. Couldn't get past 5 pints either night.

Must be an age thing.

I used to think I couldn't go a night without a drink. Now, I'm not too bothered if I don't have one.

the western world seems to revolve around alcohol nowadays

its the opiate of the masses

my sons mates drink like theres no tomorrow, scary really.

Agreed. My lad was like that before he, thankfully, met a girl with a brain, copped himself on, moved in with her and settled down.
I still see some of his mates, in the neighbourhood carrying on regardless, though.
The thing I notice too, is that their sole reason for drinking is to just get shit-faced. The whole social aspect of incidental alcohol use simply by-passes them.
You're dead right. It is scary. My own sister drank herself into an early grave, two years ago, after her husband died suddenly. Believe me, it's a frustrating and soul-destroying thing to observe - let alone be the one who must endure that lifestyle.

I used to drink 7 days a week just out of socialising or enjoyment, nothing heavy but maybe 5-7 bottles a night, then I went almost ten years without drinking, now just a weekend thing.

I know two alcholics, I feel a bit sorry for them, they're jealous that I can just have a couple and that will be it for the night. One drinks a bottle of a half of vodka a day

I had an argument with his daughter as I said a few times about them doing an intevention it's not worth it (done it countless times) . I think you need to hit rock bottom yourself rather than someone forcing it upon you, as you're not in the right mindset mentality to actually quit

To this day I always scratch my head why it's never been illegal still. It's something that can kill you, makes some people aggressive on Friday/Saturday nights, countless fights, drink driving, alcohol poisoning etc, yet things like cannabis are frowned upon. Strange world we live in!
