Alexander-Arnold got a start in a very high-pressure game on Sunday, and I really don't believe he's better than Maffeo. For some reason we seem more reluctant to start academy players than Tottenham (Winks), Everton (Davies), Southampton (Sims), United (Rashford) and Arsenal (Iwobi).
Alexander Arnold started because there was no one else to pick. Everton and Southampton are in the same spot we used to be, their team is shite so it's much easier to pick players.
Iwobi came through before Iheanacho, and rashford has been shoved out to the wing to get him away from the important areas while appeasing fans who thought Mourinho would kill off their youth policy.
We've had 3 league debuts, champions league debuts, Foden and Diaz involved in the first team. This has been the best season for youth at this club for years.
And again, even Cruyff took 2 years to promote kids from la masia when he took over Barcelona. People expecting Pep to arrive, instantly bin seasoned professionals for kids he'd known for a week were living a fantasy.
We know he likes small squads and we have an inflated one with deadweight he couldn't get rid of but has to include. Give the man a fucking chance.
