The reason I made the Lake comparison is as follows: Lake, rightly or wrongly, is considered a "legend" by many; he has a bar at the Etihad named after him; he's part of the commercial team that show people around. I saw him play many, many times. His time coincided with when I started traipsing to every away game. I saw nearly every game he played. And he won nothing. He was lauded as the next Colin Bell / Bobby Moore. Yet, someone like Kolarov, who was an instrumental part in two league titles, gets so much grief and vitriolic abuse. I'm comparing what the two won: one, a so-called "legend" won the square-root of fuck all; the other won the league. Twice. Something Bell, Lee, Summerbee etc never achieved. Kolarov should be lauded and celebrated as one of our best. Far better than Lake.
Kolarov and Nasri City legends.

Lake, Bell, Summerbee, Lee overrated

I think you are missing something here, Paul Lake won f**k all at City because we were shite during his main time with us, not his fault just circumstances. Kolarov has won 2 titles with us because the club were bank rolled by someone other than Swales/Lee, so to even compare the 2 is ridiculous, and bordering on trolling. Then to even compare with Bell, Lee, and Summerbee, equally so, because at that time the league could be won by any number of teams if they had a great season, unlike now, where (barring the Leicester aberration) only 3 or 4 clubs can realistically win it.

Winning trophies is not the only way to become a legend!

Shaun Goater is a club legend, never won a major cup, do we care...do we fuck.

Passion, commitment, loyality, determination, love for the club, trophies, so many different factors can result in becoming a legend. Some of those factors can even go against a successful player becoming a club legend.

Spot on MCFC. We can also add Paul Dickov and many more who would bleed blue blood.

In his entire career with the senior team, he had only 3 seasons where he played more than 4 games because of injuries - 87-88 (43 apps), 88-89 (43 apps) and 89-90 (39 apps). In 2 out of those 3 seasons, City played in the 2nd division. And you expect him to "win things". We're so shit that we were barely able to survive in the 1st division, finishing the 89-90 season at 14th place, 5 points above relegation. That's the only season where he played a substantial number of games in the 1st division and you're questioning why he didn't win anything. How pissed are you right now?

For someone who supposedly saw Lakey play, johnnyboy is a million miles away for even having the audacity to make comparisons.
Didn't see the king play but the best in blue split's me Silva or lakey
Give it to Silva only because of the cruel injury to lakey

Oakie / Cleavers, I saw Lake play many, many times. To me, he was good. Was he great? Not for me. Did any of the top teams ever seek to sign him? Nope. Lots of talk of Graham Souness in the North Stand, but, at the end of the day, he, like any other potential suitor, didn't see "it". Yes, Lake was hugely hamstrung by the players around him and Kolarov has been suitably "lucky" to play with Serge, David etc, but let's not forget: Mancini and Pellegrini played him enough to win two titles. I know he's not in the same echelons as Bell, Lee and Summerbee: they all won shedloads. Lake though, I'm sorry, he played fewer games than Graham Baker. And scored half the goals.

We had Lakey at our Mid Cheshire Supporters Club Meeting last year and the place was packed listening to his thoughts on the game today and more importantly his career ending injury.A true gentleman and another player bleeding blue blood.Everyone said he was the natural successor to become the new Colin Bell and Bobby Charlton at England level.
I`ll always remember Lakey chocking on his tongue at Maine Road against Leicester I think it was.I never heard a sound from anyone once they realised the severity of his condition at the time.Fair plays to Leicester fans who were actually the first to start the ovation Lakey got when being stretchered off.

Maybe he scored less goals than Baker because we started to play him as a centre half.He was far better than "good" and a fucking blind man could see the huge potential he had.Unfortunately not you.

Thought Souness sat in the North Stand wearing a cap on a mission to watch Lake. Stewart, of course, went on to win two FA cups.
