I asked a Fiorentina fan about him recently, here's what he said:

"Pacy wide man but was really disappointing for us until last few games of the season. Change of surroundings be good for all."

"Not a pricey move then?"

"Would not have thought so, although I think Mihajlovic thinks more of him than most of the fans do."

Doesn't sound good. I watched him on youtube and he was decent on youtube. Looks tall and quick but i have not heard good things about him. Just a few good games in a season.

Honestly...i dont understand this transfer at all. If it happens. He hasn't even been capped for Italy once!

Damn...Mancini. Wtf are you doing? Only because he is Italian...i have been laughing about the Henderson deal but this is going to hit me back in the arse.

oh ffs get over yourself; (a) we haven't actually bought him and (b) from what you say you haven't actually seen him play?!

-- Wed Jun 29, 2011 7:00 pm --

Come on even with very blue glasses on this sort of signing is hard to get excited about. It's the sort of risk punt we were taking in Stuart Pearce days.

You are possibly the most negative poster on the forum.

for once I have to agree with the incredibly well educated (or so he says) sabster, and that was not easy for me to write

The thing is this guy was a free transfer a year ago and has never done anything. He's going on 24 and isn't even an international for what now is a pretty shit Italian side so it's hard to get excited.

We already have an excellent squad it's hard not to think we only need 2 or 3 quality players to move forward not average squad fillers that are most likely not as good as what we have.

Cerci better than Weiss and swp ? Savic better than boateng or nedum ?

I honestly don't believe they are therefore I say don't sign either of them and retain boateng or bring nedum back. Retain swp or bring Weiss back and give him a chance.

Obviously the players will be backed if we sign them but some times managers get it wrong and fans get it right. Robinho, rsc, bellamy are the big ones that come to mind.

I doubt anyone on hear has even watched him play for 90 mins, and i hadn't heard of him until today.

Bit harsh some of the comments when none of us really know how good is, people laughed at Bale when he first started at Tottenham now look at him

At 7m Euros he's hardly an expensive risk, if he doesn't work out then so be it, but we need a squad not 25 players who should all be in the first team which would cause chaos.

Id he can come in and do a job next season, particularly in the cups while he gets used to the league, then it will give the others a much needed rest which we hadn't been able to do last season

very very good post.

this signing is all well and good for the squad as a whole.

other ares need to be addressed too, and in my opinion as well as signing the likes of Cerci, we need a world class creative player like a sneijder, pastore, etc etc

Alessio Cerci is our Messi "probably will not play anymore. In these last hours, in fact, the Manchester City of the Mancini seems to have taken important steps to purchase the outside, at which point the probability that the career of Henry Valmontone continue in the Premier League is very high. The boy starts in the youth of Rome and the first signs professional contract in 2005 when the club is aware of the quality of the Capitoline boy who is identified by many in the "new" Francesco Totti. In 2006-2007 goes to Brescia , which culminates with an unhappy homecoming and lending to Pisa . With Ventura , in 2007-2008, it explodes as one of the best young Italian, probably favored by the philosophy and style of play the coach of Genoa. In 2008-2009, the loan is turned Atalanta Del Blacks, and is still a hole in the water also causes a few crashes too. In the 2009-2010 season back to Rome with which collects only 9 appearances. On August 26, 2010, he moved to Fiorentina outright for $ 4.2 million. With the Viola begins badly, amid general indifference and even some distrust due to his being intensely red and yellow. After two months of absolute anonymity, scored his first goal in Serie A on November 7 against Chievo , then a series of performance colorless and too few output gap (even outside the field) earned him the antipathy of the Florentine public that the whistle even before the entry into the field. All this until the match away to Cagliari , when - in the field for the small accident occurred Santana - scored twice to everyone's amazement of the (few) fans who rushed to St. Elias. From then on, Cerci, shifted into fifth gear and scored four goals in just over four races. Nevertheless, the relationship between the rim and the fans hardly purple bloom, and the statements of the player at the end of the championship is the straw that breaks the camel. " My relationship with the fans is not a direct relationship: I will never run under the curve. Not even for a goal. Why have I been hurt, wounded inside. Perhaps because the Roman called me arrogant. These people will always keep your distance " .

Then you are wrong, some of us watch foreign football, I have seen the lad play, he's not anything to write home about. Mancini must see something in him, and thus if he signs we will give him the benefit of the doubt. This is a forum for people to give their opinions, and considering I have seen him play a number of times, I am giving my opinion on the lad.

I've seen many people saying AJ is our only winger....you're forgetting Milner, I'm not a massive Milner fan, but he can do a decent job on the wings. I agree we need another attacking option on the wing, but I would prefer someone who could be in our best 11, don't see Cerci being that guy

a technically sound winger who represented Italy at every youth age level and would probably cost 5 million pounds and people are upset. It's not like he's taking Silva's place FFS.

Mancini presumably saw something in Jo too. And not enough in Caicedo? Mancini baffles me sometimes tbh.

Btw the homegrown can be mediocre but Johnny Foreigner needs to be fantastic. We can only have 16 (we've 9 homegrown I think). We already have at least a decent 11 (Given, Zabs, Kolo, Komps, Kola, Nige, Yaya, Silva, Tevez, Balo, Dzeko). Only leaves 5 spots to make us title challengers and cement top 3. Those 5 need to be top top quality IMO.

And he saw nothing in Ireland and we know how wrong we got that.... oh wait.

Caicedo has never once trained with Man City while Mancini has been here I dont think, he was loaned out really early last summer, I remember wondering why we didnt atleast bring him to camp first.

Milner also played a tremendous amount of games ineffective on the wing. I don't know why this potential transfer has so many fans knocking the manager's office door down. Can we wait until 1 September to form a conclusion?

We'd have every right to be mad if this was the only business done but we all know that is not even a possibility. It's squad depth.

In no way am I trying to say Mancini is a mug, or anything like that. I'm just giving my honest opinion on Cerci, and that is that he isn't that great

The Fiorentina fans sing his name to the tune of I love you baby when he scores according to the youtube clip I saw... so at least he has a song already.

I watched him play badly as they played out a shit 0-0 draw with Juve (granted I didn't watch it all), and he came off the bench for the last 25 mins or so against Napoli, and didn't do much apart from give the ball away. I've also seen him at youth levels for Italy a few times (maybe 3 or 4) (usually where he was the big star). And I've seen bits of him in his years at Roma, usually as a sub in europe etc

-- Wed Jun 29, 2011 6:52 pm --

On another note I've seen Fiorentina a few times when he hasn't played, Montolivo would be a good signing
