There used to be another decent sport shop in Stockport precinct, up the outside excallator on the 1st floor called Suggs.. ???

Christ I cant remember what I looked like or where it was but I can remember Suggs. When did that go?

And I do remember one on Greek St facing the TA Armoury.
I got my first pair of must have screw in boots from there. I told my mum you could take the studs out and they were then trainers. Adidas Beckenbauer Super
There was another place on the A6 facing that big white office block Shaw Heath way. It always had see through yellow plastic sheets in the window

There were two sports shops more or less next door to each other, at the end of Greek Street, near the mini roundabout, one was called Harrisons and the other Edgeley Sports...both now closed....

Half remember Schofield Sports in Oldham, cant remember where but seem to remember it for tennis rackets?
Also Romida Sports in Oldham and Uppermill, heard they got the name from the 3 partners, ROn, MIke and DAve.

Romida i think was in Newhey, Nr Oldham. It may still be there. They do lots of cricket stuff

Romida went into administration several months ago, but has just been bought by another firm and is up trading again.

Schofield's was at the top end of Union Street (Manchester end) on the right hand side, they also had a factory at Mumps Bridge where they made handbags and luggage and sold it under the "Skovia" brand, I seem to recall. Mike Summerbee makes reference to the firm briefly in his autobiography, which is a great read for anyone who hasn't bought it.

There used to be another fairly large sports shop in the 1970's on the corner of Yorkshire Street, about halfway down on the right called "The Sports House"....

Pendelton's in Wythenshawe centre.
There used to have baskets of kits in these places and you could stay and look in all day.

Donaldson's also had a shop in Hyde (later became Hyde Sports) and my 1st ever City kit was bought there when it was on the corner where the entrance to the M67 and bus station is (later moved to Clarendon Place). The kit was bought for my 6th birthday and the photo of me in it appears on the inside flap of my last few books.

Another great shop was Cowans Cycles just across Hyde Road. I remember gazing at an Eddie Merckx bike in there in the early 70`s, great memories, cheers.

I think I remember the same bike. Yellow frame with drop handlebars and campagnolo gears. As you looked at the front of Cowans Cycle shop it was in the left side window as you looked at the shop front from Hyde Road.

... as for Donaldson's on Hyde Road. Absolute cracking shop. Christmas 1965... first City kit. Sky Blue shirt bought by Mam and Dad. Shorts bought by elder sister. Socks (blue white maroon and stripey?) bought by other sister. We won the Second Division at the end of that season... oh and England won the World Cup just after that. Halcyon days. (there's only one Johnny Crossan)

You can take the lad out of Gorton... but not Gorton out of the lad.
(Great photo)

Does anybody remember the sports shop in Denton, on Stockport rd. it was facing the morrisons entrance . Then it moved to Manchester rd . Cowens was brilliant the two old chaps in brown overall coats, and all them wheels hung up in the window. What about north ends cycles in Denton. Strange fella that one!

Thats right Gary.

My Dad opened it up as a single small shop in 1964 on Newton Street. The shop next door(on the corner) was a chemist called Dishmans's.....When Dishman retired my dad took over the shop around 1966...(They were both rented from Hyde corporation)...and knocked the dividing wall down (himself)...he was a good DIY'er and made it into one large shop with five large display windows....The rent on BOTH shops was £3.50 pw....:-)

We used to sell Airfix Kits, Dinky Toys and Hornby railways too.....

He sold out in April 1972, to a cousin of mine, moved to Bournemouth and opened a sports shop there.....(Which was later bought by Bournemouth and Manchester United's Ted MacDougall)

In 1974/5 the shop in Hyde was demolished and my cousin moved round the corner into Clarendon Place.

Donaldson's in Gorton was demolished in 1974.

Happy Days...
